I removed the rear mufflers from my Soarer today, since I was bored, wanted to know what it sounds like, and can't afford the full system I want for a good while. Anyway, it sounds crazy good considering how much it cost... but here's my question:
Can anyone provide a ball-park figure on how much it would cost to get a couple of pipes cut to size, bent and attached to the mid-muffs? There's bugger all involved... probably take my local exhaust joint 15 minutes from start to finish.
I'll whack the OEM tips back on for aesthetic purposes (plain pipes would look sh!t house).
I'll put a vid up when this computer stops being a prick!

I did this on my celsior, Didnt sound that good. Very hollow and tiny, would have been better to have straight pipe from the Y pipe back and no four rear mufflers.
I did however do this on my JZZ31 2JZ soarer, replaced the rear mufflers with 2.00" Straight pipe and had the stock tips put back on. Cost me $70 I recall
Heres my video, I love the sound but with a full system Ill do one day It will be MUCH better.

Glen, just have mild steel pipes made from the cats to the rear muffs, remove the middle muffs and centre resonator. Cost is a couple of metres of pipe and some labour, but sound would be excellent.

I went up to BAthurst last year with a bloke that removed everything from after the Cat converters to the mufflers, and ran straight pipe, sounded awesome, was quiet and clean, but nicely throttled.

Sweet - I'll go to the exhaust joint later today and get a quote. While the rears are off I might stick them on the buff and clean the buggers up a bit... the tips are all scratched up (stuffed if I know how that happened).

I went to the exhaust shop, and the bloke had a dekko under the car. He reckons the absolute worst case scenario would be $200 for a couple of press-bent bits of mild steel pipe, and a few welds here and there.
I think that's ok, since the last time I went there I needed a fair amount of repair work done on my last car and it cost $150 or $180, I can't remember.
I fired up the car for him to listen to, and he thinks that if I get the mid-mufflers removed and put the rears back on, it will sound better. He said there will be more room for the sound to reverberate in the exhaust, and that the mids are more restrictive than the rears so it will have a more throaty roar and better pulse definition. Bring it on... I think it already sounds pretty cool without the rears, so I'll get this done in the next week or so.

Hey Glen I'm sort of in the same boat as you regarding the money factor so it will be good to hear how it turns out for you and maybe I might do the same thing.
Just a question for everyone, when doing something like this to the stock exhaust, what happens to the sensors are they just not used anymore and will this cause warning lights to come on the dash?

I posted something similar in a different section. Following peters advice I recently removed centre cat and mid mufflers. No straight pipes as such, just pipes dropped in where the components were removed. The sound is much better and its fairly quiet when cruising. Was nothing like the aftermarket exhaust setup I had on a previous soarer though. There was a big improvement in power.

Ah, I see. Haven't seen those on my 92... and the exhaust guy isn't going to remove anything from before that point anyway.
And I agree with Maurice - the only one I knew about was the cat converter. If all you guys with hi flow cats haven't yet posted something about warning lights, it mustn't be an issue.
