Im at the crossroads of a difficult decision. I estimate that my soarer requires around 10-12k in repairs. These inclue emv fix, 4xnew airbag shocks (airbags are working, shocks are f'd), respray for a small dent, drivers side door trim, new leads, new radiator bottle, engine mounts, steering bushes, brake light electrical prob, exhaust rattle, new passenger side wiper arm, bonnet respray, front rubber bit in poor condition, tems switch broken, blinky dash despite repair (board has some breaks), steering wheel retrim, front seats retrims. its a 17 year old car and i have spent around 9k on fixes already including bushes, shims, plugs, timing belt, exhaust, wheels, dash repair, alarm etc. Or do i just buy a 10k lpg ford/holden?

if the car means a lot to you, fix one thing every 2 pay checks, like that the pain is spred out, and you dont financlally feel it as you would going all out, remember, small pieces build the big picture (remember to keep an eye on this forum for cheap shocks/dash etc.... it helps in the long run)
BTW:im a lidcombe man too .... funny enough i havent seen you yet... unless your hiding from me....

Thanks Charlie, i do love the soarer, but i suppose the emv and 4k for new airbags is worrying me the most. Hey i actually moved from lidcombe to wentworthville which is near paramatta. Also the drivers side door now clicks which shts me no end. I could probably buy another '91 but i do love the car. For a start its made of real steel, and a previous soarer already saved my life due to its weight, build and airbag.

You'll need the EMV to control the AC, and a whole bunch of other things. People have successfully removed the EMV and replaced it with the standard AC unit, however there's a lot of work involved.
Ben, you just need to know the right people and keep an eye out on the For Sale section for the parts you need.
Damian Ware does repairs for EMVs I believe, so he would be the man to contact regarding that.
If you love the airbag suspension so much, you can *try* to find a second hand set to replace them. A better option would be to just rip them out and replace them with standard springs.
You can leave the paint and interior bits til last, as they aren't essential. Heck, buy yourself those Ebay pleather seat covers mate, cheap and they look the part.
PM me if you want more help, I'd be more then happy to help out a fellow Soarer owner.

Never buy a lpg ford/holden. Trust me i drove a eb lpg falcon and I just wish I had 4 hands to give it 4 thumbs down. LPG the uzz31 and do what others have recommended. If all else fails sell it and buy another uzz

I used to have a commodore on lpg. Had to keep a roll of duct tape in the glove box for on the run repairs every time the bloody thing backfired and blew the air box to smithereens. Heaps of fun at midnight on a dark country road.

Alternatively, mine is quite likely to be for sale within a month. The crucial components are fine on my car, with all new air struts a few years ago, excellent EMV, dash and leather, all the audio/TV conversions and so on. It also happens to be a 1994 and manual. If you are interested and have the money, talk to me in about it a couple of weeks when I will be more sure of the situation. If I decide to sell then I will put it up by mid-May with a fixed price but in the interim you may want to get first call on it.

Thanks guys, i have don't do too much mechanical stuff myself apart from oil changes. I think i have the relevant contacts for the people I need. For some reason I don't seem to see parts i need in the for sale section, or i miss out.
Chris, I was thinking of coilovers, but do want to keep the car original if i can afford, also i thought a suitable suspension system would cost something like 3k installed (?)
Vinh, thanks heaps I will get in contact if i need help. I do like the airbags, but i reckon that old airbag shocks would be well...shocked.
David, I reckon that could be a goer, provided you have a sunroof, and provided i can convince my new g/f to front the cash (50/50). what $$ are you looking for. As a single father im terminally short of cash
And if Damien Ware is reading this my apologies, as i am thinking of taking the car down to him for emv and dvd system. Anyone have good reports?

I have been to Damian a number of times, I can definitely vouch for his services. He did an excellent job on my EMV, and it isn't crazy expensive either. Don't forget to ask him about HID lights.

Ben, Yeah 4K for airstruts sucks, but are all 4 buggered or wot? Are they, or have they leaked oil? And what mileage has the car done? Most of what you said in your 1st post is what I had to decide on. Yep spent $$ I won't say "bite the bullet"and go for it, cos 10-12k is a lot on top of 9K. Are you after ride quality and or looks? That is the question I ask myself. Don't give up on the Soarer Ben.

Evan, yeah at least the two fronts are buggered, i dont need evidence of oil leaks for this, its very apparent. I care not so much about what it looks like as what it feels like when i am within. Soarers are such a beautiful car to drive and having driven many other cars the soarer just feels right. Can someone point me toward a better, powerfull drive under 10k? i think not. (?)
thanks dean, damien does not always reply to my queries prob cause he is too busy, thats why im thinking of driving down there and just asking if he can fix it.

Thanks Daniel, you're right. I can just see that its gunna sap my spare cash for the next few years. Talking about it and thinking about it though - I think f#$@ it, how many times do you live (the answer is one, unless you believe in reincarnation - although then its still one, you're just wrong). Thanks for the tips guys.
