Hey everyone
Iv read from searching through the forum that I can infact pull the digital instrument cluster from my JZZ30 GT-TL and replace it with an analogue one from the US SC400/SC300?
Im not a huge fan of the Digital Cluster and I would much rather an analogue one.
Does anyone have any details on this job and can point me in the right direction? I assume it's not a direct swap and some work is required.

The bird just caught the front edge of the roof. A week or so later I saw pics of a BMW that had a bird go through the windscreen. What a mess! The bird punctured the windscreen and detonated - feathers, blood and guts splattered everywhere inside the car. The windscreen what white from the crazing.
Made me realise how lucky I was that the bird wasn't a bit closer to the ground.

I have a US analogue dash cluster that I picked up in the States last year for A$150. If anyone would like it ring me on 0418527933. Sorry do not have the internet on,hense lack of posts. Regards Kim.

physically its a bolt in job. the temp and fuel will be easy, tacho yes but will require a little gadget that chages the frequency of the rpm signal. now the speedo side of things...if there is a way to get a speedo sensor that works with this dash and your trans then i dont see why it wont work, obviously nothing is ever that simple in reality but surely it cant be that hard....i just saw a ford festiva with an r33 gt-r engine and running gear in it...if thats possible im sure it cant be to hard to get a dash from basically the same car to work

I doubt you could swap it over with the factory computer. If you are prepared to strip the factory computer out and replace it with something race bread from a non-Toyota oem parts provider you could probably do a custom job.

You can get a Defi Super Gauge Cluster, they fit most jap cars and they will display almost any reading you want provided you have the appropriate sensor wired in.
I thought the Defi clusters are made specific to the car (e.g. Evo X). I haven't seen any universal clusters (but doesn't look like it'd be too hard to physically fit).

just out of interest does anyone know the top speed of a stock v8? (delimited obviously)
Well I have a SC400 ECU and when you hit 180kph it then changes gear into 4th.
The best I have been able to manage was 194kph as shown on my navman until I had to start slowing down but personally I would say it will max out at around 240-260kph with the stock auto.
As for the analogue dash provided you had a SC400 ECU and the speed sender unit from a SC400 gear box I would say that should fix the speed signal and the rest wouldn't be too hard to fix.

any errors with the sc400 ecu James?
Why yes there is and it translates to "Engine Electrical System".
Car still works fine, but it changes the gear ratios of the gearbox so when cruising at around 50kph in drive and you floor it, it hesitates in changing gear as if not sure which gear to select, so it drops into 2nd then a second or two later it then drops to 1st and takes off.

The important factors in getting the cluster are:
- Making sure it matches your engine. I.E. soarer tt needs a 300 cluster and soarer v8 needs a 400 cluster because the tachs are calibrated differently.
-Making sure it comes with the harness connectors.
-Possibly getting the correct fuel level sensor for the cluster 83320-80210 92-94 83320-80301 95-97 83320-80340 98-00
The wiring is the hard part but it's pretty straight forward. The Toyota TIS website has the wiring diagrams for the US spec clusters. You'll just need to find the appropriate diagrams from your JDM spec cluster.
I can't speak for soarers but I know the 98-00 SCs clusters have addition abilities like MPG or air temp displays but lack the coolant level light compared to the 92-94s so depending on what cluster you receive the display capabilities may be lower. I know for a fact no SC cluster has cat warning temp.

well im pretty sure the soarer bible has wiring diagrams for the cluster. theres stuff that wont work, like the scroll function and tems. but the wiring should be pretty straight forward if you have the USDM harness.

If I had a Soarer I would definitely switch over the cluster. The r154 and 4.083 differential mechanically limit the speed to around 275 km/h. Soarer cluster is short by 95 km/h v. 15 of the SC making this a semi-TRD speedo upgrade. Plus above that point you can estimate the speed fairly easily using the analog tach.
There are a few wreckers on the lexus forums that I am sure can export a cluster with matching fuel level sensor. With these pinouts it shouldn't be too hard to swap them over. Sorry but I only have the 92-94 diagrams. The 95-96 is very similar from what I have seen and the 98-00 is very different. The Toyota TIS site has those if you need them.
