The new High Performance Imports Mag. has a smooth 'unriced' 1JZ article.
The car was tuned by the famous 'Mines' workshop in Japan and Trojan here in Oz.

There's also a beautiful R33 GTR with an insane 603KW @ all four wheels, i'd like to have that one.

Tuned by mines with standard injectors. Yes I'm sure it was one of the heavy hitters at mines. That story smells of so much bullshit.

Oh and check out the air fuel ratio curve on the 329rwkw run, its leaner than 14:1 at full power. That'll last a long time, not.

Remember Ben that the japs actually have fuel thats worth using. Their 102 probably gives them a little more headroom before detonation than our water...errr fuel.

14:1 ratios was done here in oz but on the stock injectors.

I just got mine back from AVO with a 360 rwkw (on 18 PSI) sheet. The tuner told me he wound the boost up for a run and got 450+ but it was running too lean. I asked him if he printed a sheet out for it and he told me he didn't.
Will have to wait now for more tuning before turning the wick up again and seeing what it will do.

haha yeah I read that. I saw the mention of stock injectors and thought 'wtf', then looked at the dyno sheet and laughed my ass off.
Any car can make some decent power if its pingin its ass off. It's actually a nice car, love the set up, but I can't believe you can spend so much on a car and not get at least 550cc injectors...

LOL oh yeah just remembered something.
Did anyone else read that the car previously had steel wheeled stock turbos, and the guy was running 2.4bar (35.3psi) through them!!! hahahaha efficiency? whats that? lol

There is also an interesting article on 98 octane E10 Ethanol Blend. Worth a read. They say it "displayed very similar tuning properties to other oxygenated 102-105 octane race unleaded fuels".

Yes, Johnny's car. I beleive he's sold it though...
The 320kW is with 660cc injectors/Mines/DFA etc. don't know where the "stock injector" bit came from.
It has since made quite a bit more power than that....

this is the jaycar DFA mark?? so its perfectly capable of handling that sort of set-up???? is he using the jaycar IEBC as well??

i just bought HPI for this article, but i wont get time to read it til lunchtime, and it sounds like you might know more about the car than the mag anyways...

That definately makes more sense. The article talks about that power being made with stock injectors. I'm guessing thats wrong...

He made 260 to 280 kW with steel wheeled turbos and otherwise stock setup....from there all was upgraded to get 340+kW at one stage...HPI got confused?
Highest power run was with DFA but it was changed to SAFC for cosmetic reasons only.
Runs with 320kW as "daily driver"...if you can keep diffs up to it.
...It's the only car I know that can destroy a TII Torsen from a late model Supra TT in less than one day....

Back from dead

Just got the mag yesterday. So was it really running 2.4bar on the steel wheel turbos for that long? If it was in fact 2.4 bar, I would be expecting a little bit more than 280rwkw seeing as how people run t3g’s etc. to that power figure and never heard of anyone running that much boost through them.

Thanks
Chris

2.4bar from CT12a's will not make the same power as 2.4bar from T3G's will.
The efficiency range of the turbos are exceeded at that level, where the gains from the boost pressure are offset by the temperature of the compressed air produced.

Same reason a GT30R will make more power at 1.2bar than the CT12a's will at 1.2bar.

Ok so T3g’s are a more efficient at higher boost than steel wheeled ct12as. I know the law of diminishing returns applies once you are out of the efficiency range but the main question was how long was this guy running 2.4bar on them as that just seems outrageous!

Boost pressure doesn't make power...

Air & fuel make power. The amount of air makes the difference, you can run different turbos at the same pressure and they will generate different CFM numbers.

Pressure is corelated to volume and temperature.

Boost pressure does make power.
Oxygen and Fuel make power.
The amount of oxygen makes a difference.

The reason a larger turbo makes more power is directly related to the temperature of the intake charge and the reduction of housing restriction. Temperature output varies depending on the compressors efficiency at a given flow rate and pressure ratio.

Different turbo's 'generate' the SAME flow numbers to achieve the SAME boost pressure at the intake manifold. The difference is the subsequent intake/ambient temperature delta and restrictions imposed by the turbos housing ratios.

Boost pressure at a given flow rate is determined by the volume of the intake tract after the compressor and restrictions along the way.

There is no pressure without restriction, saying you can, quote "run different turbos at the same pressure and they will generate different CFM numbers" is incorrect.
