| I googled Griffin to see what the history of the emblem meant. Essentially we have the wrong beast!

| I've been skeptical on what the soarer badge actually is as everyone says its a griffin but yeah, griffins have usually been associated with having a dragon like body with its back half looking more like a lion but having more of an eagle like head with the total front part of its body being feathered. My first thought when I saw it was that it was from the greek mythological tales of the chimaera which was meant to be a lion with the tail of a snake but the rear part of its body was scaled to blend in with its tail, but they weren't winged and couldn't fly. I seriously think its just an emblem toyota have made up and everyones just called it a griffin. |

| This gets discussed from time to time, essentially we have a winged lion, perhaps a lion that soars. It mistakenly gets called a gryphon/griffen/whatever simply because there isn't another name for it. |

| Japanese interpretation of English/medievil mythology methinks..............coulda been worser, they could've badged it "Sailplane" |

| / I would definately have to refer to it as it Lexus SC300 rather than a Toyota Sailplane. I dont care what anyone thinks. Wasn't the emblem put on the front to ward off evil spirits as you drive? |

| Peters right, I think "winged lion" is probably a good enough description. |

It certainly doesn't ward off the evil spirits in my head that make me drive like a lunatic from time to time. |

| The winged lion was the symbol of ancient Babylon (which laid in what is now Iraq). The lion represents power and courage and the wings represent rapid conquest. It a 3000+ year old symbol. |

Also looks as though he was in a very fast soarer. |
