Yeah totally agree. I just dont see how some companies can continue increasing their engine size in this time. Look at the the ls series from GM.

LS1 5.7L
LS2 6L
LS3 6.2L

Toyota's new V8 range is like this.

1URFE - 4.6L
2URFE - 5.0L
3URFE - 5.7L

The 3UR is in the new LX570 'Land Cruiser'
I'd love to see this engine in a ~1500kg Toyota. I'm sure its only a matter of time.

A few other points.
Toyota is not in the business of making cars, they are in the business of making money. They make money by making cars that people a) want to buy and b) can afford. Very few people would be able to afford to buy a Soarer or similar when its new. Remember Toyota makes money when they sell NEW cars, not 2nd hand ones (ie, the ones we can afford). While I'm sure the 2nd hand market (ie, 10 years down the road) is at the back of their mind, its by no means a main driver telling them which way to go.

Oh, and I doubt you'll see many cars that are sub 1000kg and have an engine capacity of more than 1.5L. The requirements for safety can easily add a good 250kg to the weight of a car. And as we know, the public demands safety.

Isn't the last muscle car that will be the last of its kind the Bugatti Veyron, i think they said this will be the last petrol guzling car and what comes out now will be Hydro cars or other fuel savers.

But then look at the financial strife that GM are in at the moment. They are so overstocked with large vehicles in the US they are now selling them at near or even below cost to clear them from inventory! Just because they are making them doesn't mean people want to buy them. There are always exceptions of course, a niche market car like the new Camaro is always going to generate some enthusiast sales.

Mmmm yeah that's a good point on the issue. Quite clear the big yank tank SUV's sales have been hit hard over the last couple of years, especially this year - there has been a big move to the more economical environmentally friendly cars. Must be what you say, the same for the big engined coupes and sedans... :-(

Ah yes Andrew, the 3UR 5.7.... that would be quite an impressive motor no doubt.

Ooo yes that would be quite something :-)

Shall be interesting to see what Lexus will actually have on the line up come the entry to the next decade hopefully some more things on the lines of the IS-F...

Hopefully also by then their newer older models will be more affordable than ever! I'm quite set on a 1999 LS400 vvti when the time & price is right

One thing is, I hope they change the SC430's styling completely or get rid of it - its no more than an eye sore!

Yeah, what Miles says......

If they have made something once like the Veyron - there's more than likely going to be another company(s) developing something to be as good as the Veyron and that will go beyond its 1001BHP, 10 Radiator, 407km/h wow factors... shall be interesting to see what will arise to take the lead.

Would that be the one they're running in the Camry NASCARs? I nearly spat out my coffee when I found out Toyota are showing the Yanks how it's done in the big V8 category!

Nah, Glen.
NASCAR requires a carby v8, something similar to a 289ci in size i think. Cant remember.

Toyota have borrowed an engine from someone.
Cuz, like, they dont have any carby v8's

Ah of course. I'm out of the loop... when I was still watching NASCAR, they'd phased out the Lumina, with the Monte Carlo representing Chevy, and they'd brought in those stupid headlight stickers... and I think the Chevys were running a bored 360ci... dunno though. Long time ago!
