I've just been informed that to be able to register a soarer in Oz, it must have an ARD compliance plate. This apparently has only been the case for the last few years, but if you buy a soarer now without one, it won't get registered, even if it's already been registered in Oz before the new law???? Does this just come under normal compliance? Is this person full of !@#$ Help needed, Cheers

As far as I know, Soarers have always had to meet ADR compliance standards - with the exception of if they are being brought in for either wrecking or racing - in which case they can't be registered anyway.

All grey imports (which the soarer is one) have always had to have ADR compliance. and, you can not import a race only one, then have it complied later.
if you wanted to do that, you would have to export the car again, then re import it on the correct paperwork.
i think the only way you might have been able to get a car registered without a compliance plate, is a little known loop hole that existed in nsw. (might still exist)?
if you were overseas, and owned a car for more than 3 months, (with all relevant supporting documentation) you were legally allowed to bring it back into oz when you returned home. this vehicle did not have to meet ADR's. just the regular safety inspections.

miles, that's not always the case....
with some changes to engineered vehicle rules, there are now many vehicles on the road, that have a limited lifespan.... for example, i know of one VW beetle, that has a legally engineered ford 351 V8 in it, and its front engined too.
with the recent changes, if this vehicle is ever allowed to run out of rego (for more than 3 months) it will no longer be accepted for nsw rego. so , just because a car has been registered before, is no guarantee that it will be registrable in future.

Jason, yes that is what i've been told. If it was previously registered under the old laws, then it can't be re-registered without the ADR compliance plate.
