| I wasn't quite sure where to post this, anyway. I recently bought myself an iPhone. It's pretty damn awesome, mainly cause you can download applications that do anything you can think of. I just found one called Dynolicious. Apparently it uses the phone's accelerometer (the bit that knows when you turn the phone on it's side) to measure your car's 0-100 acceleration, quarter mile time, even the Gs it pulls. Just wondering if anyone has heard of or used this program. It costs $16US so I don't wanna go buying it willy nilly especially if it turns out to be horribly inaccurate. That is, ofcourse if anyone on here owns an iPhone. Or has anyone used a different kind of accelerometer based car measuring device mechanism thingy? |

| Look also at G-Force, G-FORCE, gMeter and others. The iPhone contains an accelerometer which is used for these things along with its inbuilt GPS. |

| I have bought the program for my iPhone, works pretty well. Still not sure if it’s worth the money but is very interesting none the less. I have set it up to what I think is right (for now) and did a trial run. Tells me I have about 140rwkw ( I set transmission loss at 22%)... However this was only a trial, as there is a lack of flat straight roads in Rockhampton I am still searching for a strip to use... Will post up again once I have a better go with the program. Also the program only uses the accelerometer that is built into the phone, no GPS is used. So there is no need to be worried about data usage. |

| There is also a similar version of this application that works on Symbian v60 phones (like new Nokia's such as the N95 and a couple of others) which have an inbuilt accelerometer. http://www.tempes.com/download.html Apparently it's pretty accurate. Does 1/4 mile, 0-100 and peak speed etc.. It also connects to the CPS network too using an internal (or external GPS). There is a free trial version (with limited functionality) and it's also a signed application so there are no issues with installing on your phone. |

| I'd be scared that the GPS would work in with it then alert someone out there in cyberspace (ie technocop) that there's someone out hooning on a public road. But then again, I'm paranoid... But then again - I live in Victoria. |

It wont do that if you dont let it use your GPRS/3g! ;) I cant speak for the iPhone GPS, however the n95 gps isnt very accurate so take it's results with a grain of salt hey. |

The iPhone doesn't use GPS for dynolicious, It relies solely on the accelerometers. This App can also be put onto the iPod Touch for those of you who don't have an iPhone. |

| I have Dynolicious installed and tried it in sync with my run at WSID, It registered around 22 seconds where as my real time was 12.8 seconds. I The sensitivity was too high so it started timing before I had even got to the start line. It seems to be a great application, I just need to sort the calibration a bit further. |

| I had a play on Friday night. This run was a 13.45/170.99 according to the time card. Dynocious showed it as a 13.95/170.4, so there must be an issue to work out with rollout perhaps, even though I tried changing the rollout with not much effect. 60 foot was 2.29 on the track, 2.68 according to phone. .67g was the maximum. 5.8 0-100 according to the phone, which would seem a little slow perhaps.

| I am aware of that Callum, but when you consider the settings of the phone would not be exact unless the car and driver have been weighed and the phone was calibrated perfectly. I think its a pretty good result from a phone and would become more accurate when configured and calibrated perfectly. |

| Still struggling to get accurate figures....it seems to be about half a second out most times no matter what I do. I did get one run that was pretty close...I've lost the bloody timecard that went with it (a 12.99) but I'll use a 12.98 as a comparison. First figure is time card, second figure is phone 60ft 1.96 vs 1.96 330 5.46 vs 5.40 660 8.34/136kph vs 8.26/138 1000 10.85 vs 10.75 1/4 12.98/171 vs 12.84/175 The horsepower and max g figures are thrown off by the shift kit which produces a big spike. 0-100 on that time is 4.62 seconds which was interesting if you are into comparing to factory cars. |

| Wow I'm a bit behind the times here but I d/l the app today on the son's touch and had a blast trying it out the best of about 10 runs resulted in 6.01s 0-100. I was able to see differences between times on 16psi and 18psi. It was definitely worth the money. Next up is trying different tunes on the emb and see what happens. Here's a graph from today

| Thing is the iPhone needs to be set up correctly calibrated regulary etc.... I won't get into details, but I have used this app on the actual 1/4 mile and it has proven to be very accurate as I set it up accordingly and used it correctly.... Any road with even an undulating surface will give an incorrect result as will vibration from wheelspin movement from the device and more Anyway it was o.o1 off the et and 3km/h off the trap speed, better than the newer model gtech pro that I have, the old black box model tech is garbage and should be tossed in the bin |

Yup, tried the firmware update mode - tried everything! Different computers, different cables, even tried going back to OS3 - always comes back with error code 9 The iPod guru's at work (I work for an Apple distributor/service centre), but we don't distribute or repair iPhones unfortunately due to the Telco tie ins) tested it and recon its a power short in the connector thats causing it. They wouldn't open it up though even though its basically the same as the touch, so it had to go away for repair. Never mind, maybe it'll be kaput and they will get me an iPhone 4 instead. |
