So I've waited another 2 weeks now to get a quote from a local engine builder in Perth so I can finally get my car back together... I had followed up with an email last week and was promised a phone call. Still nothing... I would have thought with the global melt down businesses would be scrambling for jobs. Especially a sizeable one like mine (Engine rebuild, twin screw install etc). Told them I have the money sitting in an account ready to be spent.... This coincides with my custom front bar which has been at another perth business since September 2007!! I kid you not... It's been 'half' completed for six months so I can't really take it out of there... I try and do the right thing by being nice but quite frankly I'm getting really frustrated with these local businesses that simply don't want to take my money! Anyone else know of any competent engine builders in perth that actually want some business? Let me know otherwise my wife is going to spend it on completing our kitchen and I'll never get the car back on the road!! GRRRRR

Nice Joe...!....Very hard choice there...I would recommend taking all three! After all you will have a 4 car garage in your next house, you have to fill it somehow?!!...The forth spot can be for a Barina for your missus's... I've been seriously considering throwing in the towel myself and buying something that I can just enjoy rather than wasting so much time an money trying to get work done.

Joe, That Viper is a first gen RT.. they were very spartan. They didn't originally come with proper windows (though there are kits). I believe AC was not an option (but again, kits?). They had the 400hp motor not the 450. No ABS. Being a first gen it was likely converted by someone other than Viperformance (who are the only people I've seen do a really good job). I'd probably not buy a first gen, and I've always loved Vipers. IMHO it's worth the extra chunk of cash to go for a later model. Everyone these days seems to drive a Cobra... It takes a real man to drive a Firebird ;)

There is a LHD 1964 AC Replica with a 351 but should be able to register it with a 427 BB that would be my first choice in cobra http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/dealer/FORD/COBRA_AC/details.aspx?R=6201350&Model=COBRA%20AC&St ate=All%20States&__Nne=20&Make=FORD&RegionID=&Region=All%20Regions&silo=1000&seot=0&__sid=11F2A0524B 9B&state_id=0&__N=4294966463%200%20834%20258%20287%20285%201216%204294955295%20&__Ns=pCar_StatusSort _Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Price_Decimal%7c0&distance=25&Cr=1&trecs=2&__Qpb=true

Yeah, but beware all the issues that come with a big block. Most notably weight. You can do an awful lot these days to a decent Windsor, for very little money. Wasn't Gregg saying something about an engine builder though??

Yeah, and he got back to me today finally to say they don't really have the skills for the 1uz and wouldn't be able to start on anything for another 6 to 8 weeks anyway due to existing work!... It takes them 2 weeks to figure out they don't have the ability or the time after spending 30 minutes convincing me in the workshop that they could do it and get back with a quote...I'm tempted to name and shame but I won't...waste of energy.. Back to square one... |

name and shame!! so others dont get stuck. that sucks i think alot of these smaller businesses are worried about large engine builds that if something goes wrong they might not be able to cope with insurance costs etc should something go wrong or it take alot more time than they anticipate..

Well I may have hit the jackpot today. Called Vic Donis from Street Scene Automotives... They've had first hand experience in building race preped 1uz's, even running a 6 second qtr monster of their own... He spent alot of time with me on the phone, went through a lot of options. Really took his time to explain the different routes and definitly knows his stuff... We'll see how it pans out from here, but so far so good. I have given him the current setup, goals and I'm awaiting his solution options. Feeling better about it now...at least I now have a new tunnel to walk down which looks ok from the outside....

Gregg yes i know them ,one of the owners comes over to our car yard on a wed night for a beer now and again . They are really into IUZs and classics, the dragster is something else. I dont think you will have any problems with them. Especially when i tell him no more beer if its not a perfect job...
