While I was rummaging in the boot of my car I found another filter (one-piece rectangular shape) underneath the rear parcel shelf. It looks like an air filter... is there another air filter in the back? Can someone enlighten me?

It says replace every 10,000 or 15,000km yada yada yada! Is the procedure to clean the filter the same as in the tutorials about cleaning the AC filters under the front glovebox? Cause its really dirty! If I have to get it new, what's the part number and how much am I looking at?

ALSO, I found this 'thing', lying next to the fuel tank. I don't know what it is exactly or whether its even part of the Soarer.

Looks like a cupholder that is meant to clip onto your vent... and SOMEHOW still let airflow through past it.

M'm interesting. Maybe, as Tim suggested, it could be used to cool drinks with the air con on.

The other one you are talking about is the air purifier filter. The control for it is under the dash to the left of the steering column.

Cleaning it is pretty useless because it is charcoal-impregnated, so once it is dead it is dead.

Having a 1994 car, you ought to be able to get a replacement from Castle Hill Toyota or your alternative useful supplier for about $160, part 88926-24030.

'91-93 cars need part 88926-24040 which costs three times as much.

Yeah it does look like a cup holder. I'm more curious to know what it was doing behind the boot cover next to the fuel tank!

Anyway thanks guys and thanks David!

I would think that would break the soarers dash vents with a small drink sitting in it.

Rather interesting!

Yeah earlier models have the air purifier filter that is no longer in production, they are $500 and up and i wouldnt bother with getting a new one as its too expensive. Still works well at removing dust and stuff from the air and as long as your dont your car as a toilet and have a air freshener you wont really need the charcoal to take smells out of the air.

Called the local toyota dealer, got quoted $160 for the filter, as David said. So probably just clean it the old fashioned way!

Also I'm inclined to agree with Mike. Don't think the dash vents would support the weight of a drink can/bottle hanging off them.

David, this is probably a silly question but, if I wash the filter with a mild detergent will that wash away the charcoal content in the filter? I only ask these questions about cleaning because the bottom side of the filter has all this junk and what appears to be mould build-up.
