This happened on Tuesday morning on my way to work, at about 5:45am. Don't you wish all "hit a roo" tales ended as well as this? I was still going about 50 when I hit the prick too, right on the passenger headlight.

The only damage I can find that was sustained from collecting the roo was this tiny little depression on the body curve (circled in red). The roo was in mid-bounce when I slammed into him and it flipped up over the bonnet.

When I went back to check the roo after inspecting my car, the little blighter had already got up and eloped. He'll have a bloody sore leg anyway...

I'd also like to declare that a 154kb picture limit is stupid! I spent half the morning resizing and I gave up on one of the pictures I had... everyone's got broadband now, and if they don't, well that's stiff sh!t and it's about bloody time to upgrade!!!

Bad news Glen!

Lucky it was not too bad though... fortunately we dont have to worry about that sorta thing here in New Zooland.

Haha, RE the image size thing, you can make good 800 pixel wide images, as long as you have an image resizer that can reduce the quality.

Makes for great uploads and keeps the size of the website down.

Ouch unrucky.

Oh and regarding photo upload... just search the net for a better image resizer. If you are old school and still use XP search "POWER TOOLS" its a really good and BASIC program

Roos are a constant hazard up here. I've hit and killed about 20, thankfully none in the Soarer. Written off an alloy bullbar (useless junk). Then there are the sheep, emus and assorted smaller wildlife...

Glad the damage wasn't much more extensive, Glen, as it could have been. I suppose I'm glad for the roo, too:-)

Indeed, yes, it was an Australian-made brand-name bar on a Hilux. Perhaps if it wasn't an insurance job it would have been repaired, but the annoying part was that the bar folded back and broke the grille and LH light mounting tabs.

We now have a Ford Ranger with a steel bar, and within first 3 weeks I hit another roo. The bar was unmoved- but the guard flares and the lower "spoiler" panel popped their plastic clips as the roo went under the LH front wheel.

Can't say too much positive about the Ranger...

Shoo Roo don't appear to work too well, are expensive and bulky. Some people use the little whistles, but the Hilux had two of those and didn't stop the roo which wrote off the bullbar...

Another issue for the Soarer here is the number of dead roos (trucks sometimes take out two at once), sometimes hidden in the frequent floodways. They can do as much damage as a live one (and the mess something to behold if the roo is "very" dead:-))

Brand of what, sorry, Tim? The bullbar on the Hilux? We don't have it any more, but I think it might have been a WA-made item as that's where the car was delivered. I know the steel one on the Ranger is made in Perth.

Actually, I'm pretty sure our Rexton's "Nudge bar" is ECB, frankly it's pretty useless even as a light mount due to the grille arrangement, and the Type 8- yuk. The "full" bullbar is a bit better. The nudge bar came with the car and as it's leased can't fit a bullbar- but there's not a lot of choice anyway!

straght off our trade site re the nudge bar:

"Please advise customers that size restrictions apply to spotlights for the Rexton due to the integrated Bonnet / Grille combination. A narrow / thin spotlight will be needed."

Can only do so much with the design of the vehicle. Make the nudge bar protrude too far forward just for the sake of accommodating lights and its going to look ridiculous... so really we are damned if we do and damned if we dont. The focus of our product is to be frontal protection first, and spotlight holders as an additional feature. Not the other way around.

As for the Big Tube Bar...the vehicle can easily be returned back to standard trim if it needs to be removed, so not sure how that stands with your lease... its a simple bumper replacement.

I ended up having brackets made up to push the Narva Extremes forward. The bar brackets have the hole too close to the back of the bracket, too.

The Big Tube looks odd to me. The taper on the side bits of round tube is wrong, probably to accommodate the shape of the headlights.

The tabs used are a universal tab that is used right across our range. Those holes are cut the same time the tab is with a CNC plasma cutter, so as such all are in the same position.

For some, that may be too far forward, for some, that may be too far back. There is nothing stopping someone from die-grinding the hole further in the desired direction to get a few extra mm clearance.

I assume you are talking about the centre tube (3" dia tube that protects the upper radiator/grille section). Personally I'd think they would look a lot worse if they werent angled... it would make the bar look almost agricultural. Different strokes for different folks I suppose :-)

No Tim. I was referring to the smaller dia. tubes on each side, which slope down to the centre tube, looks odd, but as I said is probably due to the shape of the Rexton headlights.

Ah yep, The Shoulder pipes.

You're exactly right, basically we try to keep these things contouring the vehicles lines where we can. A straight bar over a angled headlight does look a little strange.

Anyways, that answers that I guess, but if I can ever help with anything feel free to ask
