i was on the phone to a good friend of mine today, and he was asking how my soarer was going (ive had it for a few months now, and im replacing bits and pieces just to bring everything back up to 100%. the interior was pretty neglected when i got it) anyway he mentioned that he has been offered a 93 factory manual, tt supra for 10 grand. and asked if i was interested. the car is legit. an old fella owns it. never drives it and just wants it gone. thing is i LOVE everything about my soarer..the comfort..the space inside, the space in the boot, the way it handles (tein coilovers and 265s all teh way around) but on paper, i could sell the soarer for what it would cost me to get into a quicker, more nimble supra that i could make a very healthy profit on if i ever sell it. any opinions? im really at a loss for what to do.

I think at that price their is imperfect information thus the seller knows something about the car that makes it only worth 10k in the fair market. OR ITS A BARGAIN!!!!

I would have happily owned a JZX80 ten years ago, but they were way out of my price range. Now I can afford one I've grown out of it. My advice, take it for a good long drive and then decide.

I agree with Matt, plus the whole wrapped around interior thing is claustrophobic. But do what Ali says (get it checked on with mechanic and 2.5% commission to him)

It depends what's more important to you i guess; speed or luxury. In either case i think you should get rid of the jzz30 and swap to either the jzx80 or a uzz32.

yeah im really caught up on all the advantages of the soarer over the supra..comfort...space...stability..doesnt draw too much popo attention. and build quality..the supras feel like you are surrounded by cheap tacky kia grade plastic..but everything is nice in the soarer. altho a 2j and a lighter body would be fun lol

I was going to start a new thread regarding Supras and then saw this one. I saw a cheap Supra with a TOMS body kit for 13K (non turbo low kms) at the weekend and immediately thought it was time to move on from the Soarer I have had for over 10 years. Raced outside and washed and polished the Soarer for increased trade in price and took the missus over to check the Supra out. She immediately hated the lack of boot space, the lack of rear legroom (even for kids) and the plastic dash and sunvisors etc. I said lets take it for a drive anyway. She started to complain of feeling closed in and said it made her sick and then the ride was hard and the road noise was LOUD. I didn't have any ammunition left to talk her into it so we got back in the Soarer and smoooothly drove away. I will no longer look at these cars and drool as they are not very practical as a daily driver

Agreed they are toys with limited functionality. I would only own one if I could be like Ben D and have both, however would drive the soarer 89% of the time I mean my legnum is married to my garage because the soarer is a class above and the legnum is a great car.

yeah thats exactly the thing..i already have a and giggles car, its a bmw with a 1ggte in it and a dirty big hks turbo hanging off it..it runs 11s and makes me giggle alot..the soarer is my car for when i want to do everything thats not skids and going fast lol. its such a big sacrifice to go to the supra. it would only be to make money

JZA80 guys, not JZX**. The only issue I have with the pre '97 model Supras are their looks. The later model Supras have the nicer looking blacked out headlights and tail lights (like the Supra in the picture David posted above) Also, having owned a Supra previously I can tell you now that it has nothing on the UZZ31 in terms of comfort. Sure was one fast son of a bitch though

Auto soarer is a much nicer daily. If this is a weekend toy, go for the supra. 2jz and 6 speed getrag plus nicer brakes and a bit lighter make it the obvious choice if you're only concerned with speed.

i couldnt live with a supra on a daily basis, for such a large car the boot space and rear leg and head room is just a joke and the ride is harsh although sitting in the drivers seat the car just seems to be telling you to put your foot down when driving it

Buy the supra, drop the 2jz in the soarer and sell the rest??? A 2jz with 6 speed combo fetches quite a bit of cash at wreckers. Say $4000? How much cash could you get out of the supra if you were to sell the parts from it? Could you get around $6000?? Then you could also sell the 1jz from the soarer.

Lol.. how can you people even try and compare the 2 ??? they are TOTALLY different cars, built for 2 totally different reasons and serve totally different purposes. The soarer is refined, built to be comfortable, quiet and smoothe whilst still being able to retain its everyday practicality. The supra is the complete opposite. Its for these reasons I have both, I dont think I can live with one and not the other Oh... and a 93 TT 6 spd for 10k ??? I would be approaching with huge caution. Soarers are becoming a cheaper car to run as there are a lot of spares around and the spare parts are fairly priced but what if you bought that supra only to find out the Getrag 6spd was ? surely they are a rock solid transmission but in the wrong hands wont last any longer than a normal gearbox. How much are one of these to rebuild/2nd hand/brand new ?? For a second hand one, they start at about $3000, to rebuild your looking at about $2000 just for them to dismantle and inspect it then maybe another $3k to rebuild it. For a brand new one ?? your looking at about $5800US. I know its a bit dramatic but there has to be some reason its priced about half the rate of market value, no one would drop the price so low cause they just dont drive it.

Check the Supra out first and make sure its ok, If it is buy it, drive it for a couple of weeks and if you don't like it just sell it. There should be anywhere from $5000-$10000 profit. If you don't want it send me the details.

i thought factory manual supras had r154s? without the v16* the price aint too bad. thought my mate recently paid 13k for a NA auto with genuine veilside kit, not in the best of conditions either.

Give the old man my number haha. He would have to be dumb to not check the going price for his car so there very well could be something seriously wrong with it. I agree you have to decide if you want a luxury cruiser or a heavy jap muscle car. Supra's aren't the greatest handling cars but do alright. The interior is dog. If it is legit buy it drive it for a while sell it for 15-20 later if you want a soarer again and then you can get a nice one straight off rather than having to fix heaps of little things. Non turbo supra's are like genital warts, you don't want them. 13k is not cheap for a non turbo its a rip off they are heavy and slow and nothing positive about them. I've seen plenty of guys try to convince themselves it was a good buy and save up and twin turbo it but at the end of the day they should have just bought the TT factory manual. It comes with a MUCH tougher engine, a MUCH tougher gear box as well as better brakes and various changes. I think i'd feel like a bit of a douche driving a supra just because of the tools around in them but there is no denying if you can get a good one for 15 or less they are a great value sports car.
