Hey so i was considering painting this part, it looks pretty good in the photo but in person its its not in the best shape! original paint flaking off etc. ive seen a few painted and they look nice! Looks very modern! Anyone else thats done this were you happy with it? I do have a factory black interior so do you think it could clash with the factory black color? cheers

Oh ok thanks mate! do you know anyone that has painted one? was thinking about giving it a nice clean with prep solve and then painting it with some of that VHT vinyl and plastic paint? I just dont want it to look cheap!

Don't need to use VHT. Any good quality spray will do. Just Prep Wash, Plastic Primer, then 2-3 light coats of the colour you want followed by matte or satin clear coat. Whatever finish your after. I find Satin the best to blend with the rest of the car.
This is mine, just normal (motorspray I think it was) satin black from auto1 without clear coat. Sand back the old paint if its peeling or it will show.

Hey Chris thanks heaps for that man! I already got a can of that VHT paint so i might as well just use that! Will just have to get some plastic primer and satin gloss! I also need to do something with the sides of the center console area! both sides are looking abit dull but i don't want to paint them because it will clash with the factory black interior! might get some of that orange hand scrub or something and go nuts with it! haha

Steve i think VHT is for vinyl only (never used the stuff myself). Eitherway your better off getting it painted otherwise you might be doing heaps of prep work again if the VHT stuff doesnt soak into it. Could get messy

Wow that aqua dip job is really nice! i dont think i could justify paying 3-400 dollars for it though! haha! I might see how i go with painting it and if im not happy i will try and pick up a second hand one! cheers adam!

I painted that piece about 3 months ago now, with VHT, and I did hardly any prep work and it looks pretty good. Its no Monet, but I was happy with the slight change from grey to gloss black, so VHT should be fine for you to use.
However, I love the look of that aqua dip finish above, looks a million bucks!
