Can anyone out there tell me if radiator hoses are the same for TT (JZZ30) and 3.0n/a (JZZ31)? I have the latter but have only been able to find JZZ30 silicone hoses (I don't know if they're Samco brand from UK) at one place in Australia from a mob called "Ministry of Bass" who I've never heard of.

They're listed at $105 the pair- which is a great price (more like $150 + freight from UK for Samco) while Castle Hill Toyota have only the top hose in stock with the bottom ex-Japan. I'm heading off on a long drive (Perth) in the Soarer mid-Sept and want to have spare hoses.

Thoughts, anyone?

Generally you should have little issue with blown hoses if they are in good condition and the coolant also is in good condition ...

However If your out in the middle of nowhere , wouldnt you prefer to replace a broken toyota part with a Genuine ? Knowing it WILL get you home ?

If it was me mate, Genuine Toyota all the way with hoses ! If its lasted almost 20 years from the factory, it will last you a couple weeks worth of travelling.

I don't think so Mike, they sent what I was told was a new TT radiator over for to the panel shop while my car was being repaired, and it was totally the wrong shape, so I doubt the hoses would line up either. They ended up reconditioning my old radiator with a new core and top tank.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm not specifically chasing silicone hoses- as you say Daniel, there's nothing wrong with Toyota hoses (ours are 'only' 12 years old but look good). I've experience of outback travel with older cars, and blowing a hose (especially a bottom hose) is not fun when it's 38C. Not that I'm expecting 38C even up here in Sept/Oct.

The bottom hose is by far the more complex of the two, and least likely to be matched with generic hoses.

The other option is to go to Repco, or similar, and see if some other car has a hose that will match.
I have done this before with cars.
Mackay is an Australian hose maker, and has a good catalogue.

Worth a try.

Its just a hose mate, not a steering column.

A Genuine part is not always the better or most cost effective part.

Any fitting hose from repco should be right.... as I said.. it's just a hose :-)

Yes but it has the genuine bends in it in the right spots . Not some " generic " hose that fits " 1 billion models i swear mate " , if you get my drift.

Ian, Mackay don't list the "late" model Soarers.

It seems from reply from "Ministry of Bass" that JZZ30 & 31 are different (quite possible- they have different water pumps and as Matthew has said, probably different radiators, too).

I am with Jol on this.

If it is only for a spare, I am sure Repco etc, would have something similar to get you out of trouble.
Thats what I would be doing.

The reference to the Mackay cattledog was more along the lines of seing something in it that may look similar.
