A P-plater failed to stop at the entry to a roundabout yesterday went into the side of me as I was going round.
Fortunately everyone involved was OK. However, the impact spun me 180 degrees and did this.
The front wing, door and rear quarter panel are all knackered, the door being shredded like tinfoil. The sill beneath the door is badly mangled. The tow-truck driver thought I'd left the handbrake on as it was dragging so badly. He thinks the diff might be screwed.
I have full insurance but it will be the other drivers insurer that pays. How much do you think it will cost to repair, or is it likely to be written off? It's a 91 31.

that sucks least nobody was hurt! depending on how much it was insured for id almost say it will be written off there is alot of big expensive parts that are damaged. i mean it could be repaired but may cost more than they are worth at the moment if it was really good condition try buy it back and use the parts for another car if you get one. sad to see another one gone

i think it will be written off..might be some chassis damage there, and once you have chassis damage on a car, you dont really wanna keep it, cause it wont feel the same. good to hear no one was hurt, and thats the main thing.

Although it's only plastic and metal and not flesh and bone I'm desperately sad about this.
I've had the big girl for nearly six years now. I bought it off the bloke that imported it in 1997, and it has a full service history since arrival in Australia. It's completely stock apart from the later model wheels. I use it everyday and last year all it needed was a new battery and a $250 service from Niall. They're amazing cars.
Sadly all of that loving care has come to nothing.

ouch... good hit!
What a pain in the ass mate, i feel for you. I wish someone had done this to my car when i was trying to sell it hahaha. I nice 16K would have been paid out AND i had salvage rights so coulda cleaned up nicely.
Hopefully you can find yourself a nicer NEWER model and enjoy that as much as you have enjoyed your current one.

Steve, your accident is exactly what happened to me! P-plater failed to give way and smashed my passenger side as well! Had a silvia at the time, complete write off as repair was worth over $14,000 - alot of damage especially to the chassis
Yeah that sucks, no doubt the left chassis rail will be bent and the car will never sit straight again even if you spend 10+ on fixing it. Same thing happened to my mate's HSV, $14,000 to repair, you could see from looking at the door on the other side of the car that it didn't line up, his suspension was stuffed and the diff too. Bad luck mate!

Out of interest, does anyone have a recommended body shop in Sydney? The car will be towed to a repairer of my choice to be assessed, and in case it is repairable, I'd like to have it somewhere that will do a good job.
I've had a recommendation from Niall that he uses, which is probably good enough for me, but I wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.
Thanks

thats bad luck, but thats not that bad really, the worst of the impact is direct on the door, the sill will be screwed but not hard to replace, get it on a car bench give it a pull on the pillar, put a new sill panel and door on it, repair the quater panel and guard, get a mechanical check on the suspension, the wheels arnt pointing in odd directions which is a good start. if its done properly then theres nothing wrong with repairing it.
and there are no chassis rails under these cars, its all a mono-coque body the rails end just under the front floors.
