Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading my exhaust system and have purchased some dumps that I'm unsure as to whether they will or won't fit (ie hook up to the stock turbo's). I want to have a rough idea of what needs to be done in order to get these to fit.
If there is someone who is currently doing some work on their car which has involved taking the engine or their own dump pipe out and would be happy for me to come over and help me try and fit my dumps onto their stockies then let me know. Seeing how it looks and if it lines up with the turbos while they're in the car would be even better, but trying not to ask for too much . Preferably someone from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, but willing to travel within Melbourne metro.

Hey mate, You may be pushing a heavy rock up a steep hill here.
In order to fit an aftermarket set of dump pipes you need to remove the turbos which can be tricky and tough, especially if you havent done it before =P You also need to remove the old y-pipe to fit the new one of course.
Where you will hit the brick wall the hardest is when you get to fitting it all back together; usually the exhaust has to be modified to accommodate the change as its quite likely your aftermarket dumps will be a different size and shape from the old set up.
TL;DR, you will save yourself A LOT of headache and troubles which you may not be able to resolve yourself if you take it to a mechanic or exhaust workshop.

Yeah I figured as much... which is why I've asked whether anyone who is already doing some work on their car (for whatever purpose) and has removed certain components to allow me to cut in and try and fit up the dump pipes, that's all. Save me a lot of time and money and certainly not asking anyone to take apart turbos and y-pipe just for me. If they have already done so for personal reasons (ie checking condition of turbo's, manifold etc) then it would be great if they allowed me to try and fit up the dump pipe and see how it goes.
I see a lot of other people on this forum asking for help for things like this, others even offering their time and effort without being asked to, so I thought I would give it a go. Anyway, doesn't look like there are any takers so I'll leave it at that...

WHat type of DUmps did you get and what kind of mods do they need ? If they require too much modifications, then you may be better off ditching them and starting from scratch with another pair .

Daniel,
They are similar to the marlew dumps and I don't know if they need any modification, which is why I started this thread for some help in determining whether or not modifications are needed. If they do, and its not worth it, then I will start from scratch, may even go UAS....

Well went to an exhaust place today. Told them that I'm interested in getting a whole system upgrade (turbo back 3" to hi-flow cat to 2.5" split, dual resonators and hi-flow mufflers with tips) but wanted to also install the custom dumps that I have...
At the very mention of this he started saying things like "Ooooohh okay..."
Anyway cutting a long story short he quoted me $1600 PLUS all additional costs of fitting the dump pipe. He quoted "trying" to fit up the dump pipe alone to be $600!
I do have to mention this one interesting thing though... he did say that he's worked on many Soarer's and that having a custom dump pipe made no difference to the performance of the car at all, in any way...
So I'm going to continue the hunt for an exhaust place with reasonable pricing, quality workmanship and most importantly customer service. Am I dreaming?? quite possibly...
If anyone is still willing to help me out with this or can suggest an exhaust place let me know.

It depends if that was a quote for stainless? Have you considered a performance shop for the job. I had mine done in conjunction with the other mods. The exhaust was built to my specs & to match the other bits I was adding. Heaps of shops do their own exhausts & often understand the big picture more than just the robbers at the exhaust shops

Kyle, $1,200 was what I was expecting.
Mark, don't think it was SS.
The way the guy was behaving and talking is exactly what Kyle's stated; he just couldn't be stuffed doing the job. He didn't want to touch the turbos or stock dump pipe... even if I gave him a guarantee that these custom ones would fit no problem.
I agree with what you're saying Mark and will look into it, though would like to take it to a performance shop which has worked on Soarer's AND know what they are talking about. Unfortunately, don't know of such a place in my area...
