I got heaps of respect for the LS series, I told him he should drop one in his car as it would be the cheapest upgrade he could do!! but he has spent over 10 grand on the engine in his car in the past 18 months including that $3000 bonnet scoop kit and plus his full rebuild with a cam with labour fees from mechanic (he refused to get it stroked because he thinks that stock is best..) and he has the old Holden 308/5litre EFI which came in the VS!!
Anyways, I just don't know what goes through his head. He exagerrates and bullshits the power gain from minor mods and refuses to stroke or charge his engine which would give him the power he wants!
There's no replacement for displacement in those nasty old Holden V8's

Sorry Daniel, I was talking EA non turbo. Why do people boast about hp figures anyway? The track is where it's at.
Back in the late mid 90's , I had an EA 5 speed manual that ran 14.0 @ 100 mph at the old drag strip on street tyres . It spanked everything back in the day , ss's Xr8's you name it . I even had " TICKFORD " back in the day come and ask me where was i hiding the Nitrous, lol ... They had their new prototype V8's running 14.8's at the time, and this poor little ol 3.9L was smokin em ;)
And yeah, the EF Xr6 was actually faster than the Ef Xr8 too, stock for stock . The Eb Xr6 was pretty close to the Xr8 stock for stock as well. Round a track both 6's would probably have won as there wasnt much difference in drag times, just the v8 had a fraction more power, but they weighed a chunk more too .

"ls1 + big cam + exhaust + intake + tune got 384rwkw, not bad for a rattly old 5.7..."
I think that is a BS result or the car has a huge cam with great top end with a big hole down low.
Reason being a mate of mine has spent a lot of time working on his LS1. His best result was 315rwkw which ran a 10.91 not in a commodoor.
He like most has seen these 360plus rwkw figures from the same mods. He used a known path with known parts and was dissapointed with the figures keep in mind with very sticky street tyres he could spin the tyres up no problem in 3rd so it wasn't as if his car was slow. As a last resort he went to one of the shops that have a number of dyno charts with similar figures for a retune.
After the tune his car produced 35xrwkw. On the street it was no faster and the tune changes were very very minimal, ever so slight fuel trim and 1-2 deg of extra timing.
They suggested he should change to a bigger cam spec and he would see 380rwkw.
What he should have done was a dyno run where all the previous work and tunning had been done to back up his seat of the paints feel he then could have posted results for the world to see but he couldn't be bothered and he went with the bigger cam instead.
End result a noticable drop in response, crappy idle and a little more top end that was tuned and his original shop and produced 33xrwkw. Overall it was a slower result at the strip. Keeping in mind at the other shop they would have most likely produced a 380rwkw or so figure.
He ended up going back to the original cam and with a little further work produced 320rwkw.
Something to keep in mind, 300 plus rwkw that is responsive and not just peak power is very impressive and makes for a super quick car that is a handful at the best of times with very good street tyres.

On the Commie brigade...
We have the typical Commodore bogan at my work, He has a crappy VR SS 5speed with an exhaust and it is the fastest super sports saloon in the world according to him. He drives around like a loony, dropping skids and changing lanes like a F&*kwit. you know the kind.
He used to always bagg me out about my 'rice burning, small gay motor'. calling my car a fat girls car. until one day my bro had to catch a ride with him. So he's gunning it around trying to impress my bro..."So Tim, its quicker then Geoff's car hey?" my bro just laughed.
So the next day I brought my car in, after work in front of everyone i gave him a power skid challenge. he went first, not bad, lots of noise, a bit of smoke, not a long skid. Then it was my turn, it fogged out wickedly, nice long skid right through first, with a fat darkie on the road. everyone cheered at me and leered at him. It was great.
He never took me up on my challenge for a drag...}}

Damian, Dont forget, if its using a bigger convertor, there will be more slip which means less rwhp compared to actual commodores with say a manual trans or near stock convertor and trans with less slip .
Weight and 1/4 mile mph can help work out actual rwhp . Too many people get stuck on dyno figures . My mates little capri with a 302 windsor made 310rwhp and ran 11.1 @ 119.8mph on its 1st outing on wed night ! Mind you it only weighs 2660 pounds with driver !

Dan he is using a stock trans that came with the motor it has been rebuilt, manulised and fitted with a shift kit. I believe. Converter I believe is stock but I could be wrong, it certainly isn't a very high stall converter.
But to suggest there is potentially over 100rwkw gain from about 260-280rwkw with same mods without cams to 384rwkw with cams alone I cant believe it. ie approximately 40-45% gain just from cams it doesn't add up IMO.
This has also been back up by my mates experience.
I think is cars factory weight spec is around 1350kg I cant recall exact details.

I get mostly idiots that think their ecotec is the most powerful ever engine..... kinda pisses me off because after having one I am well aware of how they really are....
But that being said I get a fair few import drivers who believe that their n/a 1.8ltr can outrun ferraris....
Also most of these people who say "I like fully raced this ___insert car here___ and soooo beat it it was like totally hectic" don't actually realise the other people probably were not even friggen racing them as more than likely they don't need to stroke their ego by racing people off every set of lights......

I had some guy telling me last night that he has a VS Commodore (3.8 V6) that has 20" chromies and airbags, and only has an exhaust and pod. He was telling me about how it runs an 11 flat quarter! haha

The bunch that really pisses me off are those Honda fanboys. God, their incessant talking up of how their Hondas can beat a stock turbo'ed car can get so annoying.

i used to work with a dude (he lost his license so is no longer) any way dragged him off several times leaving the work car park in various cars, he had a vtec prelude
every time the next day
NAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!! I WASNT EVEN FLAT OUT! i was taking it easy
yeah hiting the limiter flat changing coming out the exhaust everywhere is just taking it easy
i think the saddest moment for his is when i came from behind him as he nailed it and passed him, we were both flat out, the look on his face told the story it was gold....
sure in the soarer easy, but i was driving my smart car that i had when i first go the soarer 1L 3cyl LOL and yes it was faster.... ecu remap made near 70rwkw (780kg car) in an otherwise std car only 8psi boost peak it flew and no bs in gear was faster than my std V8 soarer, man it was a cracker lol

We have a factory ful of Holden Fanboys where I work... Parked out front the business is nothing but commo after commo with lowered suspension and wheels all thinking they are top
Cant wait for mine to be finished and to be parking amongst them showing them up... so far it only owes me about 10k I reckon... which will prbably be about the same as a lot of these, and it will kill every one of them hahaha!

I have my Soarer and a mate has an E39 BMW 535. They've pretty much hit the bottom of their depreciation curve.
We've got a friend who's just forked out 57k for a new xr8 to compete with us, he's financed the whole car and after the loan will be paid off it'll be more like 80k. He wouldn't go the xr6 turbo, even though it's a faster car (He's selling his VL and his fully modded VS v6 - the 'weekender') just because he had to have the sound of the v8. And he keeps on rubbing our noses in the fact that his car will be faster.
Well yeh, you'd hope so for 57 grand, hahaha. He could have bought something so much better. We hope the extra 40k he's spent is worth the ego boost and 50rkwk more or so. We'll grab some popcorn & sitback and watch the depreciation, which will give us the last laugh when he tries to sell it, 5 years from now for 15k. After we told him this he responded "You guys are just jealous because you don't own a ford"
Umm, we could put 40k in a bin and burn it and be in the same position as him in 4 - 5 years from now.

Hey guys you wont believe what just happened.......I retrimed my interior and would you believe, BAM!!! i got almost 110kw more power.......farken awesome wooohoooo
as for the XR8 nut, James you wont need a big bucket of popcorn for that, by the time you have left the microwave walked outside to watch, it would be worth $20k

I had a 05 corolla sportivo previous to the soarer, and my mate had a 06 XR8 ute at the time, very similar in acceleration, came down to shifts and launch. 1.8L v 5.4L
