So whats peoples views on these setups? They appear to be a very simple option for a soarer. Can post more info if anyone hasn't heard of these before.

UGH... why bother ? Gotta run oil lines and pumps and piping and blah and blah. Search through the CELSIOR threads as i believe they were speaking about it for a while.

you just have a seperate oil tank and pump for the turbo, very simple setup. why bother.... because it would be half the price of a supercharger setup.

All the setups i've seen have been around the spare wheel well, rear silencer area. If you go on youtube and type in remote turbo theres tons of videos on there showing setups. I've got an old 94 2.2 camry here which i think i might use as a mule and build a setup onto for a laught! would anyone be intrested in a project thread of this?

You wont need to install a remote turbo setup in the 5sfe camry. There is room in the engine bay. From memory, you could bolt on a ct26 as many mr2 and sillycahh(celica) boys go that route.

Being different isnt always better ... You dont see any track cars or high performance cars using these setups , must be a reason !

i was going to try run one of these setups in my mini but ended up going supercharged. there was too much stuffing around to get it to work properly with the oil pressures and with it so far away its easier to make a custom oil pump and cooler and tank setup but with the cost of that it out weighed the supercharger route. still would have loved to see how it went though

Everyone assumes there is not enough room for twin turbos in the engine bay, has anyone actually done the measurements to check, because personally i think there is, ther eis certainly a more room in the manifold area than on current commodores and there are multiple companies making low-mount TT kits for them... The only extra item you need is a scavenge pump so its not exactly breaking the bank over a single turbo setup, plus you get the benefit of a far better exhaust path which means more power, less heat in the engine bay and no having to remove the battery/hydro fan setup, etc etc

Cannot see why you would bother with a remote mount TT setup when you could conceivably fit them in the engine bay which would be far better Still, i guess you get what you pay for...

Well, there is room in the engine bay for twin turbos; I know this because I've seen Neil Griffiths 1UZFE with turbos fitted. If anyone's thinking of doing this, it'd be worth a long chat with the MAN.

Damien Smiths track car TT setup with air con removed. IMO I would only go for a turbo setup if the car was for track use only. Remote turbo will add more lag but it would be cheap, no intercooler required as the lenght of pipes allows for plenty of cooling, very basic oil pump and coolant system boot mounted will do. End of the day it will be laggy and only good for top end.

Looked at it, just too tight for low mounts (for the sizes I wanted)

Remote turbos? no thanks, too much pipework and crap running under the car that coud get hit too easily

As long as you arent scraping the ass of the car all over the place you should be fine. There are plenty of aftermarket turbo'd cars with the turbos at the back of the car running around to prove that its feasible. I doubt i would want to use one of these cars as a daily driver though... |
