im going to order my G6E turbo tomorrow (ford) and im still tossing up black with cream/beige/sand whatever you wanna call it interior or sliver with back interior i fail at proper paint care so silver is the clear winner, but the black looks sweet not interested in any other combination whadda ya reckon?

exterior... seems like black is the winner reason i like the silver is, my 2800km old motorbike owned since new a month and a half ago looks like now with all the swirl marks cos of my lack of care and general lazyness i had a silver ute and didnt wash it for 3 months and it looked clean you see where im coming from... im also a fan of the velvet it looks awesome on a sunny day, but looks brownish in the shade.... also the sliver on the FG's isnt too bad, but the black shows up the poor paint finnish, lots of orange peel... although after a month you wont be able to tell under all the swirls it will have on it... is there an easy way to keep black looking tip top? and unrelated, you know how hard it is to find a nice car with everything? man my 1991 soarer is heaps better than most cars you can buy new in my price range, and even then it still has more stuff! know anyone who wants a cheap soarer project 5k has 6.5k worth of suspension in it LOL

Avoid those crappy hand car wash places for one. If you want swirls in your paint, they'll have it showing in record time. Just buy some quality wash gear (Meguiar's or whatever) and you should be right. Since my respray two years ago, my black paint is still looking great mainly due to me washing my car by myself and using Meguiar's stuff. End of the day it comes down to whether you can be stuffed to clean your car by yourself or not. Only reason I care enough to wash it myself is because I paid a couple of grand to get it resprayed lol (which funnily enough was due to the insane amount of swirl marks on my factory black paint caused by constantly leaving it at those hand car wash places.) |

black and cream interior for the win as long as you put 5000 coats of wax on it lol make sure you pressure wash any crap off it before you soap it. Just get a cheap karcher from supercheap. If you soap with any dirt on it will get swirls. And be careful not to dint it on black a dint stands out from kms away

I saw a car done with a different product that wasn't showing wear at all. The member had tested both and had problems with VHT. There was a thread about it, but most people seemed to ignore it and keep promoting VHT.

http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/284/39073.html?1137554383 This is the best home job I've seen and Joe contacted me about six months ago and said it's holding up great. The company that sells the product is http://www.birdsall-leather.com.au/ A bit more work involved than vht but it'll last longer and they'll colour match for you.

I have to agree about the VHT. Even with quite a bit of prepwork and scrubbing beforehand, the VHT sits on top of the vinyl/leather, so I don't understand how it can be called a dye. To me a dye soaks IN to the material it's applied to. Maybe I was meant to scrub the entire top layer of leather off before spraying with VHT. I dunno how I could have better prepped the panel? Also, in the recent hot weather I have taken to putting a lightweight blanket across my windscreen and in the doors to keep the interior a bit cooler. The VHT on the driver's door heated to the point where the blanket stuck to it!! So it's now going to get replaced with vinyl (because using real dead cow is not in my budget!!!)

Black + hot climate = bad. Couldn't agree more. Despite fitting a dashmat (an item I loathe) to the Rexton I've still had things melt in the heat this summer. The ivory interior of the Soarer is so much cooler.

Yes, with modern climate control systems, black exteriors aren't so much of a problem any more - but the best aircon in the world won't stop a little kid screaming when they sit on black leather or VHT that's been in the sun all day!

I dunno, everything is friggin hot in a hot climate. Larger saloons with leather seem to have the ability to hold the heat the longest. But fabric, leather, tan or black, they are all stinking hot and barely breathable when left in the sun for a couple of hours. |

Good point Aaron - I've certainly noticed SUV's and people carriers get very hot too - though they often have large glass sunroofs that probably don't help.
