What bothers me with most Toyota's is their design is simple. Our cars amongst the best for their time. Beautiful, reliable and dependable however what sh!ts me is how they don't have the little things that make it somewhat better.
Electric rear windows? My mates old 88 Honda Legend and Merc SL500 rear windows wind down but ours do not. Also what is a little annoying is there isn't any storage in the side arm rest where say an ashtray or small drink pocket can sit.
Another, is the rear middle folding arm rest. The Legend and most cars have them but ours do not? I like the Legends but too bad they're front wheel and are a death trap. Hmm I guess what I'm looking for is I wonder what kind of mods could be done or have been done on the interior?

Hmmm I guess so, less is more is probably the way the Japs went when making this as with most of their cars. But the folding middle armrest wouldn't cause issues I don't believe and the side pockets would be something nice I guess. That Honda Legend I speak of has ugly front cabin but the rear looks heaps nicer than ours. Hmmm

Yeah, its a two door coupe, its not supposed to have wind down rear windows. The rear seat is only there to fit your luggage when the boot is full of golf clubs!

Firstly be thankful of what the Soarer already came equipt with, a lot of simple yet smart design ideas pretty much everywhere make our cars so sweet.
Secondly getting to your question i like it the way Toyota did it for a number of reasons and can also see their logic. So with the windows my opinion is they didnt make them so they could go down for the following reasons: -windows are too small, almost like a port hole so not really functional as a electric window -would look mega gay from the outside if all front and windows were down, wouldnt flow and would look like a dated jap car (eg. cedric, laurel) -they didnt design the rear seats to be used for extended periods of time on long trips with adults in the back.
To your second question about the ash tray and storage in the back. Storage again is in the seat netting, as for the ash tray thank god there was no ash tray as it would make it look straight from the 70's and 80's. Dont think there are many if any at all luxury cars with ash trays in the back seat arm rests.
Lastly for the rear fold down arm rest, again my opinion is that the car was never designed for long journeys with adults in the back. Dont get me wrong you can fit four adults in the car quite comfortably (2 hotties in the back are even better) but you wouldnt want to be driving from say Adelaide to Sydney like that. Again the way i think they designed the car is for it to be a luxury car and the rear seats only to be used to transport 3 or 4 people to a business meeting or to your fellow business executives car in the rain haha.
Only thing i would mention is if the rear windows could open up like those on a TX3 (pops out a few cms from the back) that would be cool but then you would need to design a way of the locking latch staying flush when closed. I reckon toyota got it spot on. If you want a big fat car to fit 4 people and drive it for hours on end then Toyota has got the JZX100 Chaser for you.

Haha great material David. I do agree that the Soarer was not designed for people at the back but I do have little people riding in the back from time to time (girlfriends little sister). I've sat in the back a few times and I like it.
I guess what it comes down to is I'm the type of person who likes hidden compartments and like to fiddle with things so to speak. Don't get me wrong I love the Soarer to bits hell yes! Funny you should mention the Chaser JZX100 because I posted about one a week ago or so lol!
I think I may settle for one at the end of the year seeing how things go hehe

Yeah Ken i like the rear seats aswell, can get four people in the car quite comfortable. Only sucks for tall people like me with your hair/head touching the roof/rear windscreen, would suck majorly to be in the back if it rolled. But yeah like i said back in the day i think the guys in Claifornia designed the car for executives to tell their missus that its a fuctional car as it has seats for 4/5 but really to have a luxury car with power just for them plus one. I think the rear seats were pretty much a token so these executives could give that pitch to their better half. And again ive never been in the back for a long journey but i would imagine it would suck greately if you were over the age of 15.

Yeah pillarless would look mega gay on a Soarer, only looks good on old school cars and old school jap vip cars. Soarer would be too round and the shape of the window line wouldnt suit. I reckon Toyota got it bang on right how they did it.
