| I’ve got a set of rims on the way, but I’m still trying to decide what colour I want them to be. These dark green Soarers are such a hard colour to match. I did a few quick photochop options
I’m keen on the white, but then also the black and red pinstripe suits the car also, I’m struggling to decide! Which do you think? The real wheels are similar but not the same, and don’t mind some of those funny colours. Daniel. |

I agree... white always looks good. Red could be different and cool ! Would certainly get some looks. I assume you are going to get them powder coated? Its such a good way of doing it hey, i paid less than $40 a rim and they sand-blasted them, primed and then powedercoated. The rims had a couple of imperfections (scratches) before but after they were done they looked brand new ! Dark rims on dark cars are a bit overdone now i think, so you would have to pin stripe them for sure.

+1 for white or possibly black but with no pinstripe. but as james said black is fairly overdone.

Yeh the more i look at them Don i reckon that colour of red would be pretty cool. AGAIN - would certainly be a statement so you would have to be confident with those rims in red as they would get MANY looks and also comments (good and bad). I would probably go red... just for something different and to get people chatting haha. But would have to be carefull to get THAT colour and not some dodgy fire engine red or something. Good luck.

Yea the red is starting to grow on me as well, I'll makeup a couple more angles, too see how good it looks. Ali: The wheels that I have coming are still 18s but alot wider, extra 1.5" at the front, and 2.5 at the rear, I would have loved to have gotten 19s for the rear but you cant have everything hey! At least this way they will fill the guards nicely. James: And I wont be powdercoating! I'll be having a go at painting myself. filing, sanding, filling, primer, paint, clear, doesnt sound too hard Depending how it goes I may do a how to, haha.

Get them powdercoated in Silver Hammertone. Would look 5hit hot These are a pair of old rims I got done in that finish (excuse crappy camera phone pic) here's a better idea of the finish as seen on one of our bullbars Any good powdercoating mob should have it, its in the Dulux range as Antique Silver

I wouldn't get them powder coated read too many stories about rims being weakend and failing if it isn't done right. Try a gold bronze colour.

Hey? Dont see how that could happen. Alloy gets sandblasted to etch it... gets hung from a suspended railing with a magnetic charge through it... powder gets sprayed onto alloy... then in an oven it goes at about 220deg for 20 to 30 minutes. We do our bullbars the same way and have never had any problems with durability at all... so if a set of rims have problems, they must have been a pretty cheap crap cast to begin with

Dont be scared ! hahaha, oh and dont be scared about powder coating also. Ive heard internet rumours bout problems also but have never seen ANY in real life. OH and i know MANY people who have powdercoated , including track going folk. It really is SOOO easy and a somewhat cheap, sure beats bumming around for a day or more doing it all.

Thanks for the comments guys, Shane the prep work and actual painting was quite easy, it just took a little bit of time. Basically just sanding of the gutter rash – then filler – then more sanding until your happy. Next is masking off the pieces you don’t want painted, and masking off the tires. Then a high quality etch primer, normal primer then several coats of paint. Then once you’re happy with the colour, clear coat to the shine you want. Then I left them for a few days to dry (Well 2 weeks) so they could harden properly. (Prob don’t need to do this though). And for paint I used a mixture of Powerhouse, and Septone for colour and primer. I think about 15 – 20$ a bottle from Supercheap?
