Hey guys,
i did a quick search and came up empty handed in relation to what oil i should use for a high km (220 000km) 1jzgte with a single turbo(not sure of specs) running 12psi,stock exhaust & FMIC.Its blows a little bit of smoke but not to much.My mechanic recommended using 15w-50w.What's everyone's opinion???

Thanks in advance

15-50 should be fine, could use 15-40 since that's very common in shops.

blows smoke? thats a worry. i dont think most of us would consider 220 000kms as high for a soarer. There are plenty of threads about this, i believe the consensus is a 5-30 oil or thereabouts.

10-30 is what is recommended from factory, So 15-40 or similar is fine considering we don't live in such a cold climate like Japan. Going too thick might affect performance.

That being said if it's blowing smoke, The rings may be worn, turbo seal leaking so using a thicker oil might not always help as the engine will still consume oil. I don't know if a higher viscosity oil will slow down the leak, but it's just a band-aid solution.

Keep checking your oil at regular intervals.
