Just means you have turned the overdrive off by the switch on the gear shifter.
Doing so the car will only use the first 3 gears.

I thought overdrive was supposed to be off while driving normally and only turned on while on the freeway doing 80+?

Hi,
Sometimes this can be caused by a faulty OD switch that causes it to lose contact, turning od/off sometimes, but its very rare.
If the OD/OFF is flashing, it means there has been an error code stored to do with the transmission.

yeah well its not flashing so there's no problem there.
anyway should i leave O/D on or off during normal driving? cause i thought it was only supposed to be turned on while on the freeway.

Just leave it on, the ECU's will manage it effectively.

So does leaving it on just give you more gears?

No, it gives the gearbox access to 4th gear (or O/D) if it think's it will be beneficial.
I doesn't give
you
any more gears, as there is no way the driver can force O/D to be selected.
Think of it as an Allow/Disallow button.

I always thought that running O/D whilst not traveling on the freeway was no good for your gearbox and/or is no good for fuel consumption.

If anything, running O/D on is better for fuel economy, even off the freeway you will be in overdrive when driving around 80km/h, the engine will not rev as much and use less fuel.
