Hi guys, I cleaned out the throttle body on my 1JZ the other day and my car is running better than it ever has. It idles smoothly now and no longer hesitates on takeoff (and doesn't feel like it's going to die when coming to a stop).

Problem is, my fuel economy has jumped from 11L/100km to more than 16L/100km. I used Nulon carby cleaner which according to their website, won't harm oxygen sensors.

Is it normal for this to happen after cleaning out the throttle body?

If it's true about Nulons carby cleaner being safe for o2 sensors, I don't know why the o2 sensor would fail. Maybe it just failed coincidentally at the same you used carby cleaner to clean the throttle body.

You can check the oxygen sensor output, Ussually on most Toyota's it's through the "Ox" terminal on the diagnostic connector

Thanks Boris I'll try the diagnostic check when I get home. I forgot to mention I replaced the sensor only 23000kms ago.

Are you sure the maf sensor is plugged back in properly? Which year is your car?

Its a 1993 non-Vvti so no maf sensor - it has a map sensor on the firewall.
