| Much of the front end damaged, only thing the car would be good for is a donor engine and some interior, and tail lights, bumper. |

| That is a massive hit, anyone that has crashed a Soarer will know how solid they are. About 8 years ago I was side swiped by a truck and pushed up the road for 100M or Apart from the obvious cosmetic damage the car held up very well, the doors still opened and shut even though one was hit quite hard. And Don, Nah it won't buff out, paintless dent removal might fix it though!

| Must have been well loved at some stage because they have gone to the trouble of re-doing the steering wheel |

Steering wheel has an elcheapo cover on it. Looks to be a big hit and it is quite concerning that the passenger footwell compartment has crushed. |

| Early 90's BMW had the same problems as most manufactures including toyota. Don't get me wrong they are good cars and safe (both soarers and BMW's) but this particular area of design has been massively improved in last 10 years. |

| If that was a pole, it would have to be a telegraph pole, not one of those flexible types. from my experience it looks to have been a pretty high speed impact. |

I had a look into it tonight and from what I found they are actually quite bad, 2/5 star ratings for Frontal impact which would result in sever injuries if not death, especially at anything over the usual 40mph crash tests.... Which in the real world are more like 70mph crashes if two drivers are doing around 55-60km/h in a residential zone having a frontal crash so technically your really going to see at minimum a 70mph crash than at open road speeds, 120-130mph! Paints a picture pretty clearly to why you want a car that can do well with the slow 40mph offset crash test. Looks like I will have to be a bit more careful in my E36 from now on, at least I have an airbag though! (wow..) Interesting that I have been thinking about this because today one of my relatives was around in their 528i E39 and I had a good look over it as its in pretty good nick for a 1998, I have to say I was pretty impressed with it over all, such nice quality and subtle which I like about it, its not all shouty 'look at me' Turns out they do 4/5 stars in the Euro ncap tests. I know now what my next BMW purchase will be later in the year. |

| It makes sense and it also explains why so many of the speeding drivers that crash are usually the ones that walk away when quite often the slower car isn't so lucky. |

| SO self preservation = driving faster. I'll take it on board. HOWEVER, if you're in a lighter car with less inertia you're gonna be screwed. Just gotta be careful what you hit! |

| Mike, the 540 is what you want from the E39 range, a 535 if you have to. They're comfy and go rather well though. |

Agreed, I wont be buying one of those in a hurry though One old BMW is enough, especially with my plans.
