Just for fun I am due to send my car to cihan in 9 hours for a tune, thought we could have some fun and have a guessing game. 1. rwkw its at now (pretune) 2. rwkw after tune. a tip to help, mods are in my profile and build thread, and the "after" tune will be somewhat limited as i dont want exploding gearbox's.

Haha knew there would be some silly ones, hope it doesn't go bang haha. Ima guess: 217 before 267after with hopefully alot of midrange, I asked for a tune that won't kill the gearbox, give me much improved lean cruise Econ and the power would be suited to drag racing not dyno queen.

Yer depends on the how much fuel is supplied to what cihan can do with it. stock injectors around 220 -240 MAX 440's safely around 250-270 Maxed out 290 (with a new pump) above that the T3G's will be maxing out so I recon around 280 -300 MAX if fuel and pump is done

yeah cihan has already talked me into a 1.5j going to take a while to save for it though, i hope this motor soldiers on for a while. its running at 9 psi so like 170rwkw atm... oh turns out my boost controller is dead too, as cihan ripped it out for a boost T and boost went straight up... very bumbed about what happened, but thanks go to cihan as hes a top bloke and very willing to help.

It sucks but the 2j bottom end will help with lag, what rpm did you start to make positive boost at? I'm finding that the t3gs are a lot laggier than people have reported but that may be due to my tune or lack ther of.

nahhh stop smoke and she'll be right ;) you'd be supprised how long a engine can last.... i had a supercharged 3.5L 6g74 (mitsubishi) and the crown of a piston cracked so i was down to 5 cyl, that didnt stop me chopping a mildly modded 5L commo a few times then much more thrashing and she was down to pretty much 3 cyls and the idle quality was pretty bad, yet still chopped some V6's sure i had a s/c but there was bits of piston in the cat and bent valves on them cyls.... long story the sh!tbox just kept going and going, $700 wrecker motor and it was good as new note to all magna motors suck at boost, power can be made, lots can be made actually but you need to put on the work there is a 3L getting around NSW with 507hp atw! LOL

Sometimes pushing up the boost causes tired engines (this one has 270,000kms) to burn oil for several reasons. The oil is forced through if the worn rings cause enough blow by to pressurise the sump (if the standard breather can't cope, for example). Oil is forced into the combustion chambers which causes detonation / preignition and limits performance. It also doesn't allow the oil return to function properly. Over a long period of time, especially if neglected and abused, the engine will simply get worse and start chewing oil. It can also damage turbochargers. As mentioned by others, i agree it'll be fine for many thousands of kms if left at 9psi and driven with 'incidental' sprints. Mate, 1.5JZ's are easy. I'm building one for the track car, it'll be high comp and have a HX40 strapped to the side of it ;) Cheap as chips.

i was getting 10 psi by 3000rpm with the t3g's after some tune tweeking, cihan was confident on improving that though. biggest effect on the t3gs i found was cam gears, i had min set at ex 3 notches retaded (6' at crank) and intake at +1. now the saving begins, im gutted by the last week, but at least theres some light at the end of the tunnel i spose...

Cihan, after driving mine around a few times I've changed my mind on what I want. I wanted get 300rwkw but now I'm more concerned with achieving a nice power curve. Would you suggest ditching the plan to get cams and instead get some cam gears?

sebastian cams should make more power than cam gears. but if you are going to rip everything apart id recommend doing both at same time. i noticed a big difference in my 1j with 256/264 cams over adjusting the cam gear. so much im not even sure i want to put my adjustable cam gears on my 2j as they are heavier.

Sebastian, cams are a good idea but do keep in mind that there's a bottom end penalty. Cam gears don't really make a big difference with standard cams, especially where you want to retain lowend and strong idle. Retarding the ex camgear works against that. 215/215 @ 0.50 lift cams with 9.3mm lift, or 9.5mm lift with springs, would be my pick. Let me run some numbers..

I think I'll wait to see how Mark goes with his 2j conversion before I spend anymore money on my 1j. Depending on how his goes I'll either do the same or put a v8 with one of your turbo kits Cihan which I think is the ultimate setup. The low down torque of a v8 coupled with the high end power of a turbo, perfect for the street.
