Hey

I got a 1991 Toyota Soarer manual.

The problem is both reversing light's don't work when i put the car in reverse (it just stopped working?)

I have checked two bulbs and they seem to be fine and i have checked both fuses box's and i cant find anything wrong!

Any idea's????????

isn't there a switch/sensor on the gear box that tells it its in reverse and to switch those lights on?

maybe that has busted somewhere

theres a pressure switch in the gearbox, that your selector acts against when in reverse and completes the reverse light circuit.

Not 100% certain which switch it is, as didnt pay attention when i pulled my box to replace the clutch but i think it is this 1

On the side of the box

Test at the plug, if it has continuity when reverse is selected and no continuity when out of reverse then it is ok and something else is amiss

Thanks for that Scott.

Were you talking about this plug?

I had a look at that plug. I could see thread tape around mine, umm so if i unplug it, wont gearbox oil come out?

With that plug, are you talking about the end of the plug on the gearbox or the other side?

Also can i get to the other side of the plug in my interior.

Cheers.

dont remove the switch its self, just unhook the electrical connector you can see dangling down.

When u select reverse with the stick, this should push on the switch (which is just a detent contact switch) This will close contacts within thr switch and provide a circuit.

Get a multimetre, set it to ohms and see if you have continuity through the switch if it does the switch is ok.

You will have to get to the switch and plug from under the car mate

keep trying haha, worst comes to worst, just backprobe the wires and go from there, just get 2 pins and push through the insulation and then connect your multimetre to the pins. just make sure your ignition is off as you want to check the continuity not voltage
