Long story short. My te37's should be here within a week or so. 19x8.5 front 19x9.5 rear, +20. However, not sure which tyres to get. I was thinking maybe 245 on the front and 275/285 on the rear? Don't want to spend "too" much on them but I want quality rubber.

Not a huge selection available in 19's - you would have to limit yourself to 265's at the rear - they are a fantastic tyre though, I've had mine for 4000km's now and they still surprise me how good they are for the price.

hmmmm

i can actually choose to have 10.5's also. so i could have 9.5 on the front and 10.5 on the rear. or would 8.5 front and 9.5 rear be better?

well stocko tire size is 215/225. by going with a 10.5 inch rim with 275-295 would return terrible fuel economy, and your car wont accelerate as fast because there is more friction from the tires. i wouldnt go bigger than 265s on a stock engine.

I have basic TOYO tires on my tt, on stock rims, and I have never lost rear traction on seal with those. even if I launch on a gravel shoulder then go onto seal they will grab rather than spin. a better question would be how fast you want to corner, because that is where poor tires will annoy you.

lower profile tyres dosnt mean more traction.

Why do you think drag cars have big chunky rubber?

Basically, larger profile tyres when you accelerate, twist and grab pushing away.

Low profiles have no give in the tyres and as such will wheel spin easier, rubber band tyres fail for performance, purely a look thing haha

I have 275 semi's and can't hold 3rd in the dry on bitumen.

Low profile has less sidewall flex, which gives better feedback and feel (not increased grip), and reduces heat buildup. Neither of which will do much for you on the road.

There is also an increased chance of wheel damage from poor road surfaces as there is less tyre cushion there to protect the wheels (pot holes etc), and the possibility of reduced grip as the tyre can't follow the road surface as well.

Mate, if they float your boat, and you can afford to put GOOD tyres on them, then go for it. Don't be put off by the nay sayers.

If you're going to get crap tyres, then get a smaller wheel that you can afford good tyres. If you can put good tyres on these, then go for it.

IMO, 235/245s front maximum

Rear, 245/255...

I don't see why you need 275/285's on a 225hp 2JZ, unless its purely for looks?

If you want awesome grip i would recommend highly Hankook ventus RS-II. There are about 7 varient of them but the 2 most expensive ones is what you want. Crazy grip in wet, dry and cornering.

Also Warren if you dont mind me asking how much did you get the TE37's for, new or used?

Some really good advise here - you are much better off spending less on smaller wheels and more on quality tyres than vice versa - particularly as at 19" at +20 offset in a daily driver you will totally screw the ride and handling quality. However in the end its your choice.

I paid $219NZD each fitted & balanced for my Proxes 4's, but they are only 245/50/R16's. I expect a 19 would cost a lot more.

I will probably get flamed however they are not genuine te37's. They are a copy made by the manufacturer JLB motorsports. I paid $1600USD for the set of 4 with textured matte black powercoat.

Warren, I would suggest you would need to spend to get quality tyres at least $600 per rear in those sizes.

For what it is worth for a daily driver I wouldn't bother with anything bigger than 18's and I would certainly go at least 245's on the front.

17-18's with 245's on the front and 245-265's on the rear.

Also remember that the wider the tyre the easier it will aquaplane, even with good tread.

I'd be looking at throwing in a turbo setup in the future, would be a while though as I need full license.

And yes, I want it to look tough. I think I'll just go 245's on the front and 265's on the rear.

I want a flush finish, something similar to this:

My sure do comment was regarding to the aquaplaning.

Something to add +50 offset with 275 tyres just clear factory rear guards by the smallest margin.

Likewise there have been posts of 265 with +45 offset just clearing, I would think +20 and 265 will not fit even with rolled guards.

Yeah I would be extremely doubtful.

Also I agree to spend $600+ each for decent tires if they are going to be the sizes mentioned.

Ultimately if you get el-cheapo big rear tires your wasting your time, being left with big lumps of rubber that will offer poor grip in certain or most conditions & be more than likely out of balance causing a nice motorway shimmy.

I think 245's on 18's would be the best all round on a daily basis, at least you can rotate them that way. Often with wheel choice the pros and cons to different setups aren't considered, it might be appealing to have big 19's and super low profile tires for a few weeks but fast forward 4 months you will probably be sick of the harsh ride.

Yeah well my soarer is ultimately just for cruisin etc. I have a ute for work. So I'm willing to sacrifice comfort for looks.

The idea of rotating tyres seems good. How about 245's all round on my 19's? would that be ok?

245s on 9.5 should be okay, because TT supra rims come with 255s on a 9.5.

245's at 30 or 35 profile on a 9.5 at 19" falls into the normal range for most manufacturers. Wheather it fits under the guards at that offset, I have no idea.

Supra's only have 16 or 17" wheels so can get away with a bigger range of widths. As profile decreases so do tolerances - and of course a Supra 17" rim is +50 offset so will fit the 255's under the guards with no problems.

Here is a photo of my fitment with 19"x8.5" +35 on the front and 19"x9.5" +35 on the back. 225/40 tyres all round. You can see the fitment to the guard on the back in this photo and the fitment on the front is identical. If you look down from directly above my guards the top outer edge of the wheel is exactly flush with the guard.

http://qubitonline.com/soarer/IMG_0514.JPG

So with the 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 +20 offset they would be 15mm further out than my wheels. Take into account wider wheels than my 225's all round and you can imagine what it would be like.

They look like (iirc) LE37's to me. They're not bad for rep wheels.

In those wheel sizes I'd say go for a 235/35 front and 245/35 rear (rear can change though, depending how low your car is etc etc).

I've got a mix n match of tyres on mine at the moment. Yokohamas and Kumhos. To be honest, the Kumhos KU31's are quite good for the money.

I would imagine that car in the picture you posted runs something along the lines of

225/35 or 40 on the rear going by the stretch .

255 and upwards will look nothing like what you have posted and it will look like a commodore balloon tyre.

Here is a website to give you an idea of fitment.
