in fairness, each to their own though.. i personally think z30's in factory form are ugly as sin...

and i challenge you to race your factory z30 against a factory evo8MR either in a straight line, around a circuit or motorkhana course.... you quite simply will lose...in every way...

Compare it to the first EVO which came out in the early 90's 92 I believe.

im not having a best car competition.

im just saying they are top cars..and definitely shouldnt be written off because they have 4's..

even so... take straight line off the list and its still works..

dunno, did some thinking about my next daily recently... i was actually thinking of getting a z30, but decided to make it driveable and handle properly i would need to:

buy r154 (2k)
buy clutch (1.5-2k)
buy coilovers (1.6k)
buy 2 way (1.5-2k)
buy rest of conversion gear (~$500)
buy sway bars (~$500)

so going on optimism $7.5k to get it to a level where it will handle properly..

then comes fitting a man sized turbo + supporting gear.. so im looking at another $5k... so 12k plus price of car... makes things like evo's etc.. look like a really good daily option.. as YES it is more expensive, but i dont have to touch it... and it looks better IMO..

either way.. as i said before.. each to their own..

David;
Please refresh my memory, what rpm are stock TT making positive boost?
not like what damien said......Below 2000rpm.
I take it damien you haven't driven a stock TT soarer before?

dave it is around 2400-2500 before you make positive boost
If it was 2000 you would be on boost at around 80kph when you were cruising.

Guess it depends how much load is on the car, if your going uphill wont you make boost at lower revs?

Riced up lancer- lol... Quite the opposite really.. Sure it has a wing, but beyond that, every single thing is upgraded for performance.. Not show..

But sure if you define upgraded brakes, suspension, engine, gearbox, transfer case, seats etc... Throw in some lightweight panels, removed sound deadening, improved steering components and stiffened chassis... yeah riced up to the max

but hey.. If you don't like it. Don't buy it.

Hahah, this has gotten pretty funny, pretty much all I can say is:
1. Soarers were designed/built as Luxury Sports Couples (Hence the SC Sports Coupe badge under a Lexus brand) and were made to be reliable well built cars with alot of luxurious features aswell as 3 good engines to pick from.

The V8 being the most luxurious and then a Manual 1JZ pov-pack being the sportiest, I have heard the same from Skyline drivers saying Soarer's are the only thing I can say and have said is that Skylines/Silvias etc were made to be quick cars for their size hence crap interior and pretty ordinary exterior, they are no way near better than Soarers in my opinion.

They may be faster in some forms, but the Soarer is engineered soo much better and can be fast, well my V8 Soarer has taken down a few of the skyline boys in their 33's.

Usually the young crowd (who I am still among) who think their skylines and silvia turboes are dope as, when they run like sh!t and just have a catback and cut springs, I just want my car to sit nice with nice offset wheels and a 6 speed box behind the smooth V8 cause I like something different.

Anyway hopefully what I said made some sense,
main point is that each car is designed for specific purposes, sure they can be made into something they're not from stock form (like me wanting to manual my car) but when people try and criticise other cars for not being drift pigs or having a fat blow off valve that's the immaturity right there.

Evo's are ugly as sin, but one of the few Mitsi's worth rating IMO.

However...

I would never own one as a first car because they are not nice to take the family out for a trip in, insurance is a bitch, and some asshole will probably nick it at some point.

I would never own one as a second car as despite the awesome performance, I could just never get excited about something that looks like a family saloon with a lot of plastic attached to it.

I owned a 100% stock TT and I have driven bucket loads of them.

Good condition TT's including the one I owned have positive boost below 2000rpm.

Apart from the expensive insurance, I reckon and evo would be an awesome daily because in the real world they'd be quick point to point.

I say "real world" because I think alot of mods we all do make cars better in one specific area at the expense of real world performance.

For example- lowering cars. My soarer sits 370/350cwg and that low, with a long wheelbase, means that speed bumps and gutters have to be approached painfully slowly. My work falcon, though it handles like sh1te, can be driven heaps faster without the cringe/grind factor. Another example is stiff spring rates, losing traction mid corner because of a bump or pot hole isn't fun at all, especially in traffic!

Mind you I live in the city, and a real world fast city car is quite different to a fast country car too. Dirt roads, rough surfaces and tight twists mean that low, stiff car with a narrow powerband is dangerous, no much fun at all!

So an Evo with AWD, highish suspension and high profile tyres and big brakes seems to be a recipe for a fast all round, practical car- and having 4 doors and a reasonable boot helps too.

I'd buy one for sure if I had the disposable cash! I think soarers are so popular for the bang for buck ratio, reliability and build quality. That's why I bought mine anyway. Comparing it to an evo is apples and oranges

They certainly are amazing machines, but IMO horrible daily driver.

Suspension way too harsh, interior poor quality, rattly, plastically poor sound proofing. IMO they are too laggy for daily traffic use also a bit too good of car to waste driving 40km/hr in traffic.

Keep it for a weekend toy/track car.

Back on the topic of lag, as I remember the gearing in the EVO was fairly short and this seem to help greatly down low with amazing accelleration and also gave the simulation of rapid spool and whilst they do rocket off the line and still go well in all gears in the upper rev range at 60km/hr in 3rd or 4th they go no where.

Yeah, I guess I have a different perception of what a daily
should be... Hence all of my cars, within 3 months of me owning them were fitted with the stiffest coilies I could get my hands on.. I want my daily to excite me every day, every time I drive it, whether it's to the shops or for a cruise down south...

I currently have a celsior daily, leather, quiet, comfy etc.... Boring as batshit and completely gutless...

Dunno, I can't stand driving a car everyday that you can't even take hard through a round about... Haven't gotten coilies for it coz I can't find any and it's not worth spending the money on when I'm just going to sell it...

The other option i was loking at was a GT liberty 08 model... But they have their own list if problems...

I can't wait to get my z20 back so I can drive that as a daily for a while... Nothing like the combination of 0 sound deadening, 16kg suspension, 3cm ground clearance and 450hp to wake you up on your way to work...

Either way, back on topic... I would say that a sr20 180 manual would be a great option for a bit of fun daily or especially a track project..

I'd rather have Toyota build quality (even the new Prius without brakes) than Mitsubishi design sense and build quality. An EVO is not an individually designed vehicle. It's a model option. Comparing a Soarer to an EVO is like comparing Megan Gale to Kate Moss. Megan's a REAL woman, Kate looks like she'd be about as hot in bed as yesterday's cuppa

True, EVO's are regarding as the most unreliable and expensive to maintain Japanese car ever built.

Everyone seems to forgive them reliability wise as they are just soo dam good.
