Ok this has probaly been asked before but can anyone tell me what the fuel Econ is like on a 8?

i know obviously it will chew it if you give it a boot full.

but out on the open highway cruising 110kph what revs are we talking? 1500 to 2000?

and what is a limited? limited to what exactly?

cheers

I get 630-670km per tank...

Mine seems to sit on about 2200 at 108kph on cruise.

This is with ECT, sport and OD on.

A rough average is 10L per 100km.

I got over a Month's worth of running from a tank full (68L)

haydn v8 fuel economy is a contradiction in terms. i could give you figures but theyd all be made up...and anyway contradicted by other people with (made up?) figures. In terms of limited...well the short answer it means 'limited to being nothing less than awesome'...well that was in 91' these days with all the old electrics (and emv) failing and/or needing conversion youd be better with a standard v8..naturally you'll lose the benefit of a 4 thousand dollar suspension system that will need replacing immediately - if not sooner, but if you replace the exhaust youll get the v8 sound!

Haydn, my first soarer was a v8 limited like 10 years ago. i was stunned by the emv screen which was hooked to a dvd player, the up and down of the air suspension. etc. seemed amazing at that time but couldnt quite get everything working. anyway after it was written off i bought another but five years later the dying electronics looked less impressive. and its not like i didnt try to get them sorted...its just that well the tv unit/preamp/emv/stacker would be better placed in the japanese version of the powerhouse museum. the suspension is ok i suppose, but its really a gimmick at that price. Given another chance id go a v8 with fabric seats and standard shocks. depends what youre looking at...have you got a link? i replaced my front shocks and even though they are air..well its not like a jag or anything. you can always convert downwards (ie rip everything out). all i want is a clean interior and great body... same for a car :-)

Good condition stock V8 soarer uses smack on 10lt per 100km on the fwy. My TT used to use just under 10lt per 100km.

With exhaust and BFI I have heard V8 use around 9lt per 100km but I do not have personal experience with those modifications and FWY driving.

Around town it is all how you drive as you have suggest, I found a stock TT would drink more than my V8 around town.

2200rpm is 100km/hr on the speedo about 2250rpm is 100km/hr on GPS.

still waiting to see interior shots.

ad reads as:
I have a white toyota soarer limited with 20" rims, low k's, full leather in great condition, exterior is great with 1 small dent the size of a 10c piece in rear bar. polished headlights, just had full service with all new fluids including diff an trans. Has pacemaker headers with twin system, sounds great, quiet at low revs the opens right up when you get over 3000rpm. also has height controller for the airbags. Just had brand new alternator put in and power steering pump seal re-done. wish to swap for an automatic car for my missus to drive (finds the soarer too big and would preffer a smaller car such as lancer or pulsar but open to anything) will get better pics up on the weekend.
might be swapping my beemer.

Not sure about Ben's somewhat pessimistic view of Soarer electricals reliability. Everything works on my car!! (touch wood). Limited means 'Limited Edition'.}

Haydn, usually they either black or white out. Often its just a case of replacing a couple of glass fuses inside the units - sometimes its more serious and requires someone very skilled in electronics to repair.

Don't swap an E36 couple for a V8 Soarer.

Very different cars, I got out of my soarer obsession after taking an E36 for a spin, best thing I ever did.

Easily the best car Ive had for shear driving enjoyment. Soarers are great of course, but their stock handling spoils them.

I have a standard V8(GT), and a Limited. Both have good, and bad points, but overall, the stock one is a better car. Better suspension, better stereo,
better everything
Truthfully, they are both great cars.
On fuel economy, I did a 3,000klm trip in my standard one 4 years ago, to Sydney and back.
Averaged 10ks/lt overall for the trip.
Love these cars, cant think of any car I would buy if replacing, bar a later V8

Long trips 10 km/l or more if you are good.
Around town 6-7 km/l driving quite aggressively.

It all depends on your driving style around town but out of town you will get at least 10 km/l- I'd say up to 12 (or 8-9 l/100k's).

You will never average 10 km/l if you do mostly city driving unless you pussyfoot it everywhere - and even then I doubt it.

It is never a case of just replacing a couple of fuses.

Blinky dash has been covered so many times as have EMV repairs.

Both can be fixed and I wouldn't not buy a good car because of these issues the are minor details compared with many poor condition poorly maintained early 90's cars out there.

It can in fact be just a blown fuse. Passed this on to a guy with a UZZ31 EMV I met in a car park once who had his unit go black, he followed the fuse fix on the first page and all was well.

http://www.planetsoarer.com/buttons/emvfix.pdf

That was a few years ago now though, most likely given the age of the vehicle though, it'll need more work, even if it does look like just a blown fuse as there may be a reason it blew, as detailed in the rest of the pdf, or even more than that.

I agree with Mike about the superior drive quality of the E36 mine handled like it was on rails and never bit the hand(foot) that fed it even under extreme cornering and acceleration I never felt close to loosing it however I found them to be a little under powered and had to keep them up in the revs for that reason. Here is a pic of my beautiful snictzer before it was stolen and after GRRRRR . mean drivers car though !

Yeah totally, not the best interior, I removed the front and rear side/door cards because they were quite nasty, replaced them with aluminium sheeting. Much nicer, eventually getting rid of the stock heavy 25KG seats for some light weight Sparco Road/Sport sets, they will work better with the roll cage in the back too.

Agreed. With in 2 weeks of buying my E36 I decided a 1UZFE conversion was on the cards for it, eventually it will happen this year, just got a half cut of a celsior for the engine thus far, using the motor for another project while its in the shell. :-)

heh yeah it's getting there. :-)

I will once it draws closer, I will document it well,

I will probably make up a few sets of engine mounts/headers/sump, some to keep for a rainy day and some more to sell to people wanting to do their own conversions. A friend of mine already wants to embark on the same project! Once these parts are made is all fairly easy, but I need to get a crappy 318 thats not going to use as the template and take it to my storage yard to work on.

Key things to make up are:

Custom headers either 4-2-1 or 4-1, stainless of course, not sure if theres room or my welder is prepaired to try equal length ones, they might get too serious but good power gains going that route..

Custom engine mounts, they are the most important thing I guess once they are made up it will be a big weight gone off the project, looking at using factory new Toyota mounts and somehow having those custom fitted with brackets welded to the E36 subframe, not sure how it will go exactly but I plan to make those as over kill as possible,

Oil sump to clear cross member, theres a place in Australia that sell them for 700, but I think I could design and make one up for a fraction, need a new oil pick up too and a remote oil filter setup.

And finally Gearbox mount, fairly easy to do once the engine is in the right place.

Just a quick run down, but Ill be looking at getting a tired E36 around Late July.

Yeah they are 16s, would like M3 Staggered Style 29 wheels but they are the last on the list.

Can't beat a soarer for the ultimate GT car

Fantastic comfort
Reasonable performance and handling.

Good range

My now sold 1991 V8 fully loaded with everything could do almost 800km on the highway. Made it from mel to adl city to city on 1 tank with stops and climate on and some overtaking. Car was in need of service air filter was Black as! Not changed since 1998 trip was made in 2009 Lol

Also loaded with gear 2 fatties and stupid heavy 20" dinner plate mags

Made it home return trip too from Adelaide to Melbourne on 1 tank 76L to go 793km.

You can fit a tad more than 78L in the 78L tank

Nope. Supercharged route. Turbos would more efficient as we all know though.

They are pretty impressive, originally I didnt think much of them in the E36 range as they looked too similar to the non M3 models, but as of the last year I have rather appreciate all the time details on the cosmetic side of things, plus theres a lot more that goes into the car to make it perform that much more than a non M car.

Tight on the sides as you would expect but there is a workable space, plenty of room up top for an M90, maybe in front you could run a joint manifold single turbo but heck knows how much room there would be between the stock big version E36 radiator, 1UZ hydro fan setup and the engine itself.

Heres a picture of a locals guys 1UZ E36.
