Hello all.

So i have a bunch of rubber seals from my car, they are all in good condition, not rotted or anything, but a little stiff and dirty.

Is there any methods I can do to bring a bit of life back into them, to rejuvenate them and make them more soft for better sealing?

I did read once a warm soapy mixture with them sitting in it was one way, but I dont recall the final details.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

To my knowledge Mike I would go with warm soapy water and when they dry then use some silicone on them.

If your talking about door seals and the like, use Mister Sheen...in addition to the obvious (cleaning), it softens up the rubber nicely. The guy who tinted my windows suggested I do this on the window seals to prevent them rubbing the tint off over time.

Haydn am keen to know of the name of that plastic and rubber rejuvenator product, does it actually soften the rubber up or only short term?

For most rubber things I need to bring back to life I use WD40 or similar lubricating products. Use heaps of it and work it in with hands or stiff brush (makes a mess though) It penetrates the rubber a little and seems to condition it too. I especially use it for radiator hoses, outside and in (then they seal better too) They come up like new.

I've been told that talcum powder can keep rubber seals from deteriorating.
