You have the weirdest set of ethics I've ever seen. If i remember correctly you said you'd NEVER EVER get a cheap head unit, but you're perfectly okay with getting a phoneworthy? What kind of person are you?

warrens right you do actually need a roadworthy to get a car into you name, it has to be reregistered if rego is cancelled and a roadworthy, plus vic roads inspection. i had to do it for my car. and tried to for another car we had, but cost to much for a rwc, o we just sold it in the end, no reg no rwc.

Road worthy to get the car registered. Or road worthy to get the car registration in your name. Either way that's how you own a registered car. You can own a car without registration without getting a roadworthy. Just regular rules apply if disputes happen - receipts for proof of purchase. |

Why not just get your car road worthy and then sort it out? Can you not afford it? If thats the case then you shouldn't be playing with cars until you can.

Sure but i guess you'd spend the extra few hundred to get a brand name head unit. Strong priorities.

you buy a cheap headunit to save money. roadworthies under the table cost 3x the price of standard ones, money well spent if it saves you a load of headaches. just like how money is well spent on a branded head unit. I don't what what your trying to say aiden

i dont agree with doing the dodgy road worthy, but i do understand what Warren is saying. it is a pain taking all your mods off and then putting them back on after roadworthy.

Guys, chill. I don't agree with what Warren is asking about either, but there's no need to start getting into each other's hair about it. Warren, if you lived in NSW I could point you out to numerous dodgy mechanics that do this sort of thing. Only reason I know is my moron mates tend to do these sort of things only to end up getting defected a week later. I highly do not recommend what you're trying to do here, but I understand your situation. Best of luck with it all.

Just go to a local petrol station type inspection station, make sure your car looks clean as a whistle, and talk nice to the boss. They should do it no worries. Unless your car looks ridiculously illegal of course.

The problem you will have is that if the car is un-reg or interstate reg, the it will still need a vicroads inspection. In theory this should only be a vin/engine no check, but it you get an ass then you could wind up in the crap, as well as the bodgy rwc guy.

we have previously registered a car that was registered in another state without a checkup. as long as the vin/engine match up on vicroads system, you just have to provide a roadworthy and a document of sales. you can also register an unregistered car without an inspection as long as its within 3 months of the expired rego. and for those curious, i found a guy that can do roadworthy's in melb. $250 without an inspection of the car, just provide vin/engine. anyone interested just pm me

Wow, in NZ you can both lose your inspection licence and be prosecuted with pretty nasty fines if you are caught providing illegal WOF's (RWC's) - its happened a few times in the last few years. I believe you can even be prosecuted for criminal negligence if your failure to ensure the saftey of the inspected car can be proven to have caused an accident leading to injury - then its off to prison for some serious time. I would have thought it would be far worse in Victoria the Nazi state - surly you get publicly flogged or castrated or something if you are caught providing dodgy RWC's?

I agree about the States part, having had to re-register two cars owing to nothing more than moving from ACT, a small enclave within NSW, to NSW. It is absurd. Recent legislation has set out to make road rules and registration laws identical in all State jurisdictions, so why are the States involved any longer? So they can tout on number plates for tourists?

Correct for basic common cars. Imports are now classified as 'high risk vehicles' and require a vicroads inspection. At least they did in October last year. |

Not sure about other states, but WA is pretty simple for those moving here. If you've had the car for more than a year, and its not modified', or the modifications are approved, then no inspection needed. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1383.asp
