Hey guys. I am about to install a Megasquirt piggyback ECU into my UZZ31. It eliminates the need for the air flow meter so I would like to modify it. I have some options and would be after the one that is going to give me the best performance.

First option is: Get some 3" Stainless Steel pipe and run it from the TPS towards the front and have a pod filter at the end of it.

Second option is: Run 3" pipe from the TPS (again) then to the factory airbox some how making it bolt up to the back of the factory air box keeping the standard filter in there.

Third option is: Run 3" pipe from the TPS then down into the body under where the factory air box sits (cutting a hole in the body) and have a pod filter there. This is my least favourite idea as I do not know how much room there is under where the factory air box sits and if it will be accessable enough to replace the air filters although it will mean I am getting cold air.

Making the intake pipe bigger will in theory increase the amount of air flowing in. I can make it up myself so there is no problem there. I know that some pod filters are not as good as the factory filter and air box but as it stands there are a few different circumstances for example remounting where the air comes from and having a bigger intake pipe.

What do you guys think?

First option, but box up the pod.

Second option, but with the front of the airbox cut out and BFI'ed.

Nice one, James! Have you managed to find much documentation online for doing the Soarer/SC400?

Id keep the airbox whatever you do.

Looks cooler than a pod.

Also a great spot for sucking in large amounts of water. Not good.

Stock design scoops air from the bottom drivers side bumper of the car. I guess he won't have turbo's to cut the water and turn it into a nice healthy mist though :-)

That's what I thought. I have heard of quite a few people with pod filters located down in the area james was talking about, sucking in heaps of water.

Well sounds like option 2 might be the best but the only problem there is making sure the rear of the air box will bolt up and that the hole at the rear is big enough and wont be restricting the air flow.
