Hi all,

Just wondering what are some ways to make my v8 sound better, i really dont wanna fork out 2000$ for extractors. Ive watched some vids on youtube about people removing the mufflers which really made it sound good, What are your suggestions?

Cheers

You can do it cheaply if you remove the stock mufflers, resonators, and remove the middle cat. Put some straight pipes in there place with aftermarket mufflers on the end.

would removing the cats make my car defective? Also what about cabin temperature?

It will be illegal if you remove all the cats, but since you have 3 (or 4) what you can do is keep the cats right behind the headers, and remove all the remainders, what you should be left with is two cats which you can replace with high flows if money permits. Most people will replace them as the cats you have on the car now will most likely be old and clogged.

If the sound is what your after, then this will give you that growl, but wont be as raspy and deep as a full system.

Resonators are used in car exhausts as a form of silencer, same as a muffler. It uses the sound waves reflecting off the side wall of the special piping to cancel the other sound waves, as in creating resonance to cancel frequencies.

(I think its behind the second cat).

Anyone know what the two different stock pipe diameters are? So Kevin knows what to buy I guess.

Open bonnet, remove that thing in front of the gearbox, insert 1/1.5/2JZGTE and enjoy. Won't matter what it sounds like- the noise will be waaay behind you.

Fora bit over $500 you should be able to get a cat back. I got extractors back from CHE and if you take out the cost of cats its about $700 or so.
