Hi guys.
I'm taking my 92 TT auto Soarer to the dyno this saturday.
My mods are 2.5" downpipe and mid pipe (no cat stock mufflers in the back).. yes all 4 of them:-) and a airfilter kit.
I'm doing some runs at 10.15 psi thats without the bleeder and some runs at 16 psi thats what i run when i need a kick:-)
Is there anything a need to look out 4 before doing the dyno. Is my diffratio 4.07 and should i do it in 3rd ???? What numbers could i expect???
Oh and it's a dynapack.

Just load the car up in 3rd gear with overdrive off . STart feeding the throttle on and when the speedo hits 110km/h then apply full throttle for the run . It wont kick back then .

Gear ratio is 4.08 :-)

my soarer with the only "mods" which is 2 small cannons on the back made 153kw at the wheels. i think there was about 90 - 100,000k's on the clock at the time

was running on a tank on 98ron

Hey Cato,

As the others have said, do your dyno run in third.

The only other advice I would give, would to change the oil and filter (unless this has been done recently) and these 5 things as recommended by Wolf;

1. Make sure you have at least 1/2 a tank of fuel.

2. Go over the engine bay - wiggle and pull on wires (not too hard) and connectors, tighten (not overtighten) all fuel lines, hose clamps, brackets.

3. Make sure your tires are inflated to correct pressure and that your wheel nuts are tightened correctly.

4. Write a list - of anything that you are unsure about. There may be a slight oil leak, or something may have been rubbing on a bracket, there may be a vibration you noticed but you are not sure where it is coming from. Anything like this should be written down.

5. Communicate your list to the dyno tuner. They need to know anything that may cause delays and add costs to your tune. You want to know this up front, as you don't want a surprise half way through the tune, or at the end getting handed an extra bill.

Cheers.

Well, that exact detail could be changed. Such that if something let go, or if issues came up, it could come at a cost in repairs and/or wasted time and effort.

I was just trying to give some info that might be helpfull.

I had a stock TT on the dyno day a few years ago.

Auto, stock with a set of cannons on the rear. Thats all, running on some E10 98Octane stuff that I still had in the tank. Made 179rwKW. I have the printout somewhere too.

179 is a pretty good result. i think mine has an issue keeping boost at higher rpms. you can see where it dropped off in the graph.

never bothered to look into it

Well did a couple of runs on stock boost (11.6) and some at (17.4psi) and it did as follows.
Stock boost 147.83 rwkw and i think that sucks
At 17.4 it did a 194 rwkw.

So what is you guys opinions of this.
Mods fcd-downpipe-midepipe-podfilter.
Rear exhaust is stock all 4 mufflers.

Forget about the downpipe and midpipe for now, and get rid of the rear exhaust section (the 2 rear mufflers in particular are really restrictive) for something less less restrictive like 3" into twin 2.5" with straight thru mufflers.

Unless they are damaged they actually flow quite well.

when I had my car dyno'd my graph looked very much like that.

the torque going on a steady angle down, cihan explained the whole thing, that when it does that that 9/10 there is a big blockage, such as a busted cat, blocked intercooler pipe or terribly flowing exhaust.

my cat was 1 month old at the time, we found that dropping the exhaust was a 35rwkw gain (3" dump, 3" mid, 2x 2.5), turns out its mostly down to my rear hyper medallion mufflers that go to 1.5" inside, when we dropped it the torque curve went back to normal.

To see how restrictive the exhaust is, drop it, then design an exhaust that flows well.

p.s. with my exhaust, I got 153rwkw, drop the exhaust went to 188rwkw, but my low numbers turned out to be a blown motor, but shows how much of an effect the exhaust can have.

Here's an article about how restrictive the factory rear mufflers are, all that whisper quietness comes at a cost

In the early days someone (I think it was Manny or Sholm) did a back to back test with the stock rear mufflers at 250rwkw and there was only a 6rwkw loss. Keep in mind that a intake and exhausts restrictions are non linear at 200rwkw the restriction would probably be only 2krwkw.

As to the planet soarer article note second sentance and comments about water, it sounds like those mufflers were damaged.

Whilst I'm sure they will not flow as well as aftermarket straight through's they are not as bad as most people think and they are certainly not the limitation in the factory exhaust system.
