I have issues pertaining to surge of power on my 91 v8 soarer. I just changed my fuel filter and when I had 8 liters of petrol left in my tank and did hard starts fon stationary position, there is horrible power surging feeling and jerking back and forth till 60kmph and it's fine.
So I went to pump up my fuel to full tank with v power and now it's running fine with no surge and jerking issues.
Could it be due to a faulty fuel pump?

mine had the exact same issue, did some searching ages ago and not much on it.

I pulled my fuel pump out, cleaned the filter bag, remounted pump, cant remember if I bent the pump down a bit or not. never had the same issue again though.

things ive done at same-ish time, always run 98, and never with less than 10L of fuel.

You're doing hard take-offs? on 8l?

All the fuel would be sloshing to the back of the tank and starving the engine.

Like Matt said, it's not rocket science, if there's not enough fuel in the tank to cover the intake the motor doesn't run. Go easy once it's under about 16 litres, that where mine starts doing it anyway.

Sorry if it sounds like i'm torturing the soarer, just want it to be in good condition as i really love my soarer.

Marc: So basically after swapping the fuel pump your issues were gone? I might just go swap a fuel pump if thats the case and hope that it works.

I put a walbro in mine and it still does it, the problem is there are no baffles in the tank so when you accelerate hard all the fuel rushes to the back and leaves the intake dry. Thats why you use surge tanks in drag cars.

So what you are saying is that even if i swap a fuel pump the problem will still persist?
I doubt this is normal right? I'm still wondering if it is my coil packs that might be causing it but i have neither the knowledge or the skills to test the coil packs. Anyone knows how to do it?

I didnt change pump, at the time i cleaned the filter bag on the pump, and i think I pushed the pump further into the white fuel bucket youll see when your in there.

I havnt had fuel surge since, even at the drag track.

What Jeff's saying is that when you get to less than quarter of a tank, head to the nearest petrol station.
Problem solved.

alright, thanks guys.
Now i'm running on above 1/2 tank constantly and the problem doesn't surface, so i guess i will just stick to constantly >1/2 tank petrol.
