Hi - having picked up my '92 UZZ31 earlier today, I'm absolutely thrilled and there are a couple of things I'm looking for near me (Surry Hills) - can any of you recommend one of the following near me?
* A reasonable exhaust place that understands why I'd want to replace a muffler with straight pipe to release V8 sound?
* Somewhere that'd set up the tracking for me, as the steering wheel is 10deg off heading straight ahead, and the car tracks very slightly to the right?
New to the area so any recommendations you may have much appreciated.
I am really enjoying the car, and totally see what all the fuss is about
Cheers!
Mat
[edited to say sorry I can't figure out to change typo in heading, sorry - should be newbie... ;) ]

Hi,
You realise the stock exhaust has like 3 resonators? You could just replace the resonators with straight pieces so that you still have a muffler? I don't know about your preferences but on the road that's going to be a bit more subtle than looking like you have no muffler and being pulled over by the po-po.
As for the 'understanding your preferences' i can't say I do, i'm not really all that impressed by a v8 till the mechanical whine of a supercharger is implemented ;)

Yup - the supercharger setup isn't super cheap like some straight bits for the resonators. I've seen on ebay though some "dyno shootout" flanged exhaust pipes, basically designed for cat length so you can drop off the cat and bolt up these pipes instead to get higher dyno numbers.
Im not 100% sure but if they ended up the same length as the resonators you're pulling out, it could be worth buying a couple of those yourself and bolting it up. No specific need for anything special.
I'd ebay search "dyno shootout cat" or something like that...
Not sure if there will be one but never hurts to look, although i cant guarantee anything (like right length or that).

Ok thanks very much - I've had a quote of $300 from the local midas, might give that a go.
Does anyone have any experience of taking the 4 resonators out but leaving the rear mufflers on an otherwise standard exhaust?
I've had an extensive look through the forum and see lots of examples of various aftermarket combinations, but nothing on the results of just deleting middle boxes and keeping the stuff at the front and back standard.
My hope would be just a little more "texture" to the sound, a bit more character. But if it made it boomy at constant part throttle it'd put me off.
So on the offchance anyone has any experience or can share a link to a video or similar, that'd be much appreciated
Mat
ps. if anyone knows of a decent place to sort the tracking for me in Sydney city, please shout

As for your 'tracking' issue- if you know one end of a spanner from the other you can do this yourself.
You can adjust your tie rods to get your steering wheel/ wheels straight. If the car tracks right with the wheel in the straight ahead position you need to wind the right (driver) side tie rod in and the left (passenger) side tie rod out. I would go a single turn each to start with, take it for a drive and then adjust as necessary. Remember to lock the nut off each time.
I don't remember the spanner size off the top of my head but it would be around 12mm for the 'flat' and 16mm for the lock nut.
Might be able to get pics tomorrow if you need.
(otherwise any and every brake/steering/suspension/tyre/mechanic place can do it for you. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks. You could get the whole wheel alignment done at the same time for around $100ish)

Thanks everyone
Peter, that's good to know. For the sake of $300 I'll give it a go, can always add the lukey backboxes at a later stage I guess
Ben, thanks for that - I don't even have a jack or anywhere to jack the car up if I did, so for the time being I'll probably pop round to the local mechanic, thanks very much.
Gareth, yep! Cheers for flagging it, what a fantastic resource
Don't know where to go for exhausts locally. For suspension work I'd go to Heasmans in Tempe/Petersham. For mechanicals definitely Niall at Bond Auto Tech.

Thanks very much Jose
Actually one more quick question, have posted in ICE but not heard anything - how do I test the CD changer with one CD, ie without a magazine?
Mind came without mag, and before I buy a new mag I want to check the changer works ok - someone said I can do it with one CD, but cannot for the life of me see how I insert it.. I think I'm missing something important ..
I'd say to meet up with a Soarer owner and borrow the magazine just to test. In many instances they skip all over the place, I'm lucky that mine was all fixed up before I bought it.
