hi guys, im looking at getting a new car, and well i have come across some very nice soarers, so maybe thinking of getting a newer soarer for instance http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1991-toyota-soarer-2jz-gte-400hp-/290497191665?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item43a2fb5ef1 #ht_894wt_1141 this has all the giddy-up i would want, but im not sure how the licensing companies look at single turbos and all that kinda gear, its in queensland, and if i bought it and drove it to WA, does anyone know how the pits would look at this kinda gear and would i need to change it before they would pass it or?

you cant get dodgies in wa unfortunately.. im going through this headache now.. not to this exttent but with my two fresh imports... your instance is treated as follows.. car is to be given a one hour inspection by the pits.. and treated as any other import. you have three months to swap rego over to wa rego. if the seller has his car engineered.. then it will help your cause. other than that I see hes put supra brakes on so cant be tooooo hard to engineer it if its not eng.. looks good man, personally I would consider flying to inspect car or getting an inspection on it.. seems very cheap for what its got knaww meen. but yeah. personal note when dealing with this. use your head. welshpool house numerous tech specialists and federal compliance officers. that place is like a bloody hornets nest to be honest its full of out of touch wankers. I personally suggest quietly register it at a place where your car will seem better than most.. for instance warwick or northam... ;) the drive would be worth it. dont drive it back though. trust me. lets say you drive this old car that you're not familiar with thats got a 2jz swap thrown in the mix... you save about 200 bux after you pay for flights motels food petrol etc.. lets say you get lucky and save 200 bucks from not using ceva logistics.. youd be pretty lucky.. but what if the 2jz turns out to be a bit dodgy and you blow a seal or do the gearbox out on the nullabor. or cook the radiator.. its a long way home with an unreg car.. and bikers do enjoy raping people and stealing their cars for a larf. just sayin. use ceva but yeah if its engineered swap... go for it. car looks cool

You cant get dodgys in wa? Surely there would be a place that does them. Id just ring around different licensed mechanics and explain your situation and see if any of them reply with something similar to "don't worry mate, just bring it in and we will see what we can do". This is what i done and although it wasnt an under the table dodgy, they checked the car over but turned a few blind eyes and were very lenient. If you have a roadworthy in wa, does your car still need a check over in the pits?

Lucky you did not go to Midland pits Rowan as they would be checking on how it got through comp with old cats on etc, can be a can of worms

the car is registered over east? so to get a road worthy and rego for WA it WILL need to go over the pits. but however im not sure how the ptis look at engine mods and single turbos to how legal they are? etc. my main concern is if it does blow a seal or something its gonna put me in the for finding a way to get home

that's why use ceva man. don't drive it back it's too much risk in an old car with an engine swap man. if you cant afford ceva then rob your nanna or dont buy weed for a week. :-P dave you dont know the half of it mate. wanker RAW shop did massive dirty on me. none of the claims on his evidence package were true. i've ice the cars three weeks now and i'm only getting number two registered tomorrow. bloody dick head didn't install child restraint points. didn't install cats. didn't stamp vin on chassis. didn't do any oil changes. nothing. not even mirrors. i've spent the last three weeks complying the car on my front lawn and driving it to n fro to engineer and friends for help. later I will be taking him to court which will be fun. to everyone from over east throwing in 2c.. wa has different system to you guys. all cars are inspected by government. we have to make bookings. and it's very difficult. with this car however it has mod certificates. so that works in your favour. tell you what. call dept of transport and ask them for their comment. internet car forum nerds like us can provide all the advice in the world and none of it will matter man!

Ty if you do go ahead and buy it, don't even attempt drivin it mate, just get it transported by truck, train, whatever..... Believe me the Nullabor is no friend to cars man, my bro drove over from sydney a few years back in his WRX and his car was riddled with stone chips all over the bonnet and front bar which needed to be resprayed here in Perth, not to mention a big crack in the windscreen from a flying rock from following semi trailers, plus the added worry of braking down too. Also are you gonna fly over east and see it in person first before buying?

sorry to hear that Rowan glad you have a job now though. Ty I wouldnt even attempt to bring a modded car over from another state and thats my opinon. It was hard enough for me to get my STOCK mint low km 97 uzz31 passed let alone an old 91 with a bunch of big mods! Dont do it unless you have the big dollars to back throw at getting engineer certs etc. Just mod yours or buy one locally...hell buy my vvti!

The Nullabor is really no different to other roads in WA, for instance the NW Coastal Hwy/Brand Hwy, the rocks are the same and the road chip is the same, and the coastal road has even more trucks (many with wide loads for the mines). In fact, the Nullabor can be a lot more pleasant than the coastal Hwy as it's often much cooler, given the proximity to the Bight. Any car can cross the Nullabor as long as it's in reasonable nick, but yes, the stone chips are a bugger |

All those saying the Nullabor is no place modified cars need to man up! I spent 2 years building my UZZ10 Soarer. Ended up getting it registered the day before I drove to Sydney and back (got the plates at 10am Friday morning, left for Sydney at 6am on Saturday morning). I had done less than 100km's 'testing' in the car before going on the trip. I repeated the trip about a month ago, and once again, took it across the nullabor after doing minimal testing km's (it had spent the last 3 years off the road in pieces). Ended up leaving at 4pm in the arvo as I spent the whole day up until then sorting out a few small issues. As long as you have basic tools with you (full set of spanners/sockets/screwdrivers), you'd be surprised what you can fix. Remember, its only 4000km's over to Sydney. Most people will do that number of km's over a 3 month period without even lifting the bonnet. That said, going back to the OP, as the car is a complete unknown to you, I'd also be freighting it. Regarding compliance, a few points. 1) Welshpool is 'generally' considered as the best place to register/inspect a modified vehicle. That said, I've personally been to 3 different pits, and found them to be very similar. 2) Get as much paperwork as possible! If the current rego papers have '2JZxxxxxx' for the engine number it will make it a lot easier. 3) If not, you can risk it and hope that the pits pass it without question (50:50 chance) 4) If you don't want to risk it, get the car, and then fill out the mod form, submit it, and start the engineering process. Fairly easy process, but time consuming as the DPI is not usually known for its speed (can take 4-6weeks to get paperwork back) 5) If you don't have any emissions testing paperwork, go get a '5 gas test' done (as above, you can risk it without this, you may get lucky). 6) Make sure all the other is kosher (vehicle height, exhaust 'loudness', washers, wipers, lights, horn, belts, tint, etc). It all gets checked.

btw, the rims in the pics don't match the description, and the rims in the description aren't legal in WA (offset is wrong, track width is increased too much). Rarely/never checked.
