Two days ago I got a text from a MicJ saying:

'What is the asking price for the car on Carsales
solexcraig@gmail.com me know please'

Me not thinking anything of it emailed the address with the car details etc

I then got a reply to my email within about half hour:

'Thanks for the response,i will take it for $9,600 including PayPal
surcharges without RWC since i am interested in the immediate
purchase.I just moved to the United Kingdom, where this is needed and i
will be making use of a shipping company to have this picked up from
you and have it delivered to me.Further arrangements will be made with
you in regards to the pick up once i have paid you.

I would appreciate if you email me with more pictures (if available)
too since i won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal
email to send funds to in order for me to pay you ASAP.'

I thought this was VERY sus, so I googled his email address and found a web page explaining the scam.

I then replied with:

'I'd like to direct you to the following link... Make sure you search for your email address on the page. You will also be reported to federal police.

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1340763

Have a nice day'

I didn't report it to the police, I did however report it on the carsales web site through their scam section.

Today I get a text from the phone number: 04033246577, this seemed sus straight away because there is an extra number in the phone number. I again emailed the person sending them more details on the car as this time there was no broken english in the text.

I got an email back this afternoon (from: w.chatfield846@gmail.com) saying:

'Steve,
Thanks for the response.I will pay $9,000.I am buying the car for my wife who just delivered a baby boy but unfortunately, I am not around due to work commitments.I am a petroleum engineer and I am currently working on a rig offshore. Its so painful but i need to put food on the table.I want to make the car a surprise gift for my wife as I have promised to buy her a new car when she delivers.I hope I can trust you as I will be paying for the car unseen and when payments has being sorted,I will arrange for the pick up and delivery to my wife.I will appreciate if I can get some close up photos of the car to check the cosmetic state of the car.
I will be paying you with the safest and fastest online payment method if my offer is accepted.Do you have a paypal account? If yes, advise your paypal details so I can proceed with the payment and arrange for pick up immediately. If not,you can quickly set up an account at www.paypal.com.au. I wont be able to come for inspection due to my present location,so I need your words that the car is in very good condition.
Will appreciate your response and cooperation.
Regards

Warwick'

This like the other will be reported to carsales. To everyone trying to sell their cars be warned that if someone wishes to pay you through paypal and says they live overseas or something similar it is a SCAM.

I have listed 4 cars on car sales in the last 18 months and 2 in the paper and have had probably 20 of these scam calls in total. If a story smells funny it usually means they are sprouting bull s&^t

Yeah,

Seems that these scams have only become very frequent in the last few years or so

How depressing is it that there are so many people trying to rip other people, who often don't have much to start out with, off like this?

Dear Soarer Central Friends,

I am Mr. Warren Moore, Accounts Manager, of Abbey National PLC
Bromley Rd Branch. I have an important business proposition for you.

On December 12th, 2009, a German contractor with the British Pertroleum co-orporation, United Kingdom ,Mr. Olaf Partetzke made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar months, valued at US$ 17,350,000.00 (Seventeen Million Three Hundred Hundred and fifty Thousand Dollars only) in my branch.
Upon maturity,I sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract employers, the British Pertroleum co-orporation that Mr.Olaf Partetzke died from an Automobile accident further investigation,
I found out that he died without making a WILL,and all attempts to trace his next of kin was fruitless.

I therefore made further investigation and discovered that Mr. Olaf Partetzke did not declare any kin or relations in
all his official documents, including his Bank Deposit paperwork in my Bank. This sum of US$ 17,350,000.00 is still sitting in my Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. No one will ever come forward to claim it. According to inheritance Laws of the United Kingdom, at the expiration of 5 (five) years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Local Government Authorities here in Wales, United Kingdom, if nobody applies to claim the fund.

Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you to stand in as the next of kin to Mr. Olaf Partetzke
so that the fruits of this old man's labor will not get into the hands of some corrupt government officials. This is simple, I will like you to provide immediately your full names and address so that the attorney will prepare the necessary documents and affidavits that will put you in place as the next of kin. We shall employ the services of an attorney for drafting and notarization of the WILL and to obtain the necessary documents and letter of probate/administration in your favor for the transfer. The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 60% for me and 35% for you and 5% for Expenses Incurred in the course of the transaction .

There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction will be done by the attorney and with my position as the Manager with my bank will guarantees the successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested, please PM me.

Upon your response, I shall then provide you with more details and relevant documents that will help you understand the transaction. You should observe utmost confidentiality, and rest assured that this transaction would be most profitable for both of us because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country.

Awaiting your reply, Warren.

Thanks and regards.
