I know it might sound like Sacrilege to some of you, but i have been offered to swap my auto soarer (V8) for a manual SR20DET 200SX (series 1 s14.
what are your opinions.
some reason id trade: - i can't fit my bike in the soarer and the seats go down in the 200sx - manual>auto (my opinion at least) -SR20 is a 2.0 so should use less fuel. - i like the sound of a turbo.
reason i don't want to trade: - soarers look better - sound better 1UZ-FE - more unique - i love my soarer

Coming from a S13 with a S14 engine, i can tell you the petrol consumption is close, even negligible depending on the person.
Just refueled my V8 manual, and it came down to (assuming the computer number is correct at displaying how much i got left) 13.8l/100. On my sil i got bout 12ish with granny driving.
Thing it comes down to is that, with the straight 4, you get nothing without boost, and without boost is the only way to save fuel.
Can't comment on your bike needs
Only positive i feel from a turbo 2l is the kick. I do miss the kick from my 270hp silvia, havn't seen a thing get the blood pumping like your car suddenly throwing you back and start adjusting it's own angles lol
Also don't know where you located but in Perth S series cars are everywhere...
Oh and parts for them is crazy easy to find. Lol, it's like a supermarket out there and pretty decent prices too.

yeah the instant torque for the V8.
parts wise to replace i have heard they are cheaper and easier to find.
but it is good feeling out for a drive in the hills and being the only soarer. surrounded by silvia's and skylines. (but that's is why soarer cost more to fix).
i guess when it comes down to it the two things about the soarer i don't like is that it is auto and i can't get my bike in it.
one day i'd love to own a V8 manual Soarer.
should also mention the 200sx has 170,000kms on the clock. Is that to much?

How much for? The SR engines are good in terms of life, as long as it has been properly treated. One thing is to ask if they have changed the chain (instead of belt, it uses a chain... load longer lasting but it makes the engine sound sorta like a tractor hahaha)
Yeah parts for sil are cheap as chips, pretty awesome
170kkms on a sil though is quite a bit, so many around so should be able to get a fairly good ks for a decent price. Just hunt around.

Stock boost should be 7psi, can safely handle 14. Sounds like a decent enough swap to me, maybe other people could comment too. Then again i don't know the condition of your soarer.
No boost controller running 10psi, bit ??? about that one.
If your mind is set, go for it. The S14 chassis should still be decent, if it was a S13 i'd tell you to check the electrical stuff (coilpacks, looms etc)

I personally would do the deal (which will probably go against the majority of responses on a SOARER forum). It really depends what you want. The soarer would be a nicer daily driver but if you after something that's a bit fast and a bit more of a drivers car the lightweight manual s14 would fit the bill. Parts for these cars are everywhere so if you want to modify it in any way in the future it should be cheap and easy to do.

That engine...i can't see properly cause the bar is in the way...but from that photo alone it doesn't look like a S14 engine..have you seen the car in person?

Ive got a s13 Ca18det and a jzz30 TT auto. both have there good and bad parts. The s13 i can throw into a corner and i know ima make it out the other end. Where as with the TT im still a little unsure. The 200 will feel like a go kart compared to your V8. All in all you wont regret swapping if you do, Great cars the s chassis ( when there going ;) )

Other ad isn't available any more.. so can't give opinion, but.. if you had the higher spec'd V8 (31/32) then i'd say probably not, but seeing as though you only have a 30, i'd say probably an ok swap as long as the car you're getting is good..

I used to own a s13, and ended up selling it... But they're quick cars and noticeably smaller/ lighter too. Like Dean said, S chassis cars feel like go karts compared to the Soarer.

I have a Strap on bike rack which latches to the back of the boot and bumper - no need for a two bar. Once it's set up it takes 2min to put on and/or remove and you can store it in the boot. It has safely transported my bike for 2 years and I have no issues putting $6k worth of bikes on the back when we go to an event. Could be a solution to your bike issue with the Soarer?

SR20s don't have the reputation of reaching 400kkms, but i think that's mostly because we get our hands on them, put 400-500hp through them, blow something and then forged internals with massive changes to match hahaha

old thread but i actually went the other way and swapped an rb20det s13 silvia for my soarer, reason being the silvia was 1.uncomfortable 2.way too common 3.cop bait ......soarer solved all those problems and is faster (in a straight line haha)
