Hi all Im from Perth WA.
I own a V8 4L. I'm getting around 620 km from a tank of fuel without running aircon and not driving it hard..Can someone please tell me if this sounds about right - fuel consumption????
No modifications done to the engine (standard).

Also as my mechanic (Wangara WA) cannot provide services any longer - are there any other reliable competent and familiar with my type of vehicle - I am in Perth Western Australia.

Tony, you'll have to get a bit more scientific (with the calculator) to know for sure, but as a rule of thumb, if you're refilling with about 62 litres (for your 620 ks) you're doing OK. I watch my consumption most closely after a trip and usually find that I'm getting 10km/100lt (sometimes a little better). The usual variables apply - speed, smoothness, weight, local or highway etc.

Tony, 620km is not bad if most of that is inner city driving. Doing long road trips you can get close to 800km per tank, so long as the engine is regularly serviced.

The LS400 on a long trip 800ks easy.
Did a trip from Phillip Island to Horsham and back on a tank.Biggest thing for fuel your o2 Sensor.
Had new one in the LS400.
And just put a new one in my car.
Went down to under 500ks to a tank now back up well over.
Haven't done a long trip yet but should do Horsham and back easy.Going by what i use to get when i first got the car.

I'm getting about approx 13L/100 with suburb driving, and mild dicking around.

SAFC tuned to 98RON, pod, extractors -> exhaust.

620km per tank converted is roughly 12L/100km which is pretty good tbh, less than my silvia before hand

Couldn't agree more, these "kms per tank" mean little. Personally I NEVER let a car of mine get below quarter full, if I can help it. Even l/100km are suspect unless odometer has been checked against GPS ( a small move from standard tyre size can make a big difference to odometer). Our n/a gets about 10l/100km on a trip, best in the high 8s. Poor around town, but our trips are short and car doesn't get warm. A recent trip to Sydney yielded exactly 10l/100km. I'm astounded that V8s can get better than this, especially as I drive reasonably carefully.

On long trips I always use cruise control about 3 km over the speed limit and use 9L/100km on the 5th gear, in city driving there I'm the first taking off from the lights when turning green and are about 50m in front (that means I use 3/4 of the accelerator) when the other people start the car use 20-25L/100km. As you can see in my profile I have a R154 gearbox and a m90 supercharger.

Must be delimited then. I have the later cruise which maxes at 112km/hr- with speedo error, 111. I'd prefer to sit a couple kms higher in 110km/hr zone, but can't be bothered with the VVTi cruise fix for that smidgin.

It's not delimited that I toke away for 10 years ago but on long trips I rarely dive faster than 3km over limit and that according to the GPS.

Is there a fix for VVTi cruise control? I haven't looked into it for the last couple of years.

My 91 Limited does about 600 (120km/day) or so mixed urban driving and I don't feather the throttle either... I fill her up once a week.

Someone had a thread ages ago offering to fix VVTi cruise modules, didn't follow up as I sit only a tad above the limit anyway (it's 110km/hr west of Narromine, sorry Dubbo, it was changed). Between Dubbo and Sydney, and the Newell N & S of Dubbo, it's 100 (and hwy wrecked by all the trucks).

My V8 consistantly gets 11.5L/100km. Supercharged as well. Mixed driving (to work), bit of freeway, trafic, open road, cruise and occasional fang. Same driving my 1jz chaser got exactly 10L/100km.
The 1jz is just a wkendr now and it usually chews 12L/100km +.
Some tanks were getting 13.5L/100km. The 1jz seems to be more subject to how you drive it.
All open road the 1jz returned 6.7L/100km. I was very impressed! Haven't taken the 1uz for a long journey yet but I'm guessing it will get about 9.

I'm surprised the N/A 2j doesn't get better then 10L/100km though.

With the supercharge, you would have had an aftermarket ecu managing fuel. Chances are 90% of the time you're driving the actual fuel is leaner than it would be on the stock ecu map.

Same goes with getting a TT with some piggyback or full replacement.. I believe lew told me that he'd take out nearly 20% on points of the map and that would lend both more power and better fuel consumption.

Fuel consumption is mostly a factor of how fast you want to get a weight moving. The difference in weight between the different models of soarers isn't huge, so the fuel required to move them will be similar. The faster you want it to move, the less economy you'll get.

So am I! Although I have to say that my last long trip was to Sydney, where the "cruising" section is mostly 110km/hr zones (where, in my SUV, the economy immediately starts sliding backwards, it has a readout on dash) while the slower section where one might expect economy to improve is very hilly and windy. Also, coming back, I was quite heavily laden (boot & backseat full of stuff).

It was more open in WA, but then I tended to go a bit faster in 110km/hr zone (WA police being tolerant up to about 119km/hr, no points and small fine if caught up to that point). So WA economy wasn't much better.

Mine probably needs some sort of tune-up- although many components have been replaced (iridium plugs eg).

Nope it's only running 5psi and so stockie ecu. I've got mixtures checked. It's running stock mixtures until you floor it. Then it's running quite rich (you can smell it a bit). Being a stockie ecu. An after market ecu should be able to lean it out under full boost and gain power.

Yeah but it's one factor of many others. My mates hsv he just cruises it and always get 20L/100km. Compared to my old celica which I put through HELL mots of the time and returned 10L/100km city. When it took it easy it didn't really get any better.

The 1uz is just a great motor, for a v8 it blows people away that I can get over 600km per tank. Blokes at my work think I'm seriously bullshitting them. I get almost double the distance for the same litres. One has a 5ltr v8 around the same age as mine, one has a 5.7ltr v8. Another guy has a vt v6 (I still get better economy then him and I would be driving harder then him).

Around town Cara gets around 14L/100km in our PFC'd manual TT, if I drive it to work (a bit of heavily trafficked highway) I get about 12L/100km, recent cruise to Bathurst including some hard laps netted sub 10L/100km though which astounded me

Update to this, I've travelled just under 630km on a tank of 95RON. This is with the aircon on and stuck in traffic travelling between Sydney's south east and north west and back everyday. As soon as I turned onto my street the fuel empty sign popped up on the dash.

These are fantastic cars. Oh, and my fuel gauge doesn't play up either :-)
