| Decided I needed a bit of noise out of my V8, so got the rear mufflers removed, and straight pipes fitted with original tips. Jeez, those centre, or front muffler must be restrictive, not much louder than standard. I didnt want great amounts of noise, but thought it would be louder than it is. |

| You're not wrong, the stock exhaust is very quiet. |

| I would have suggested to keep the rears and remove the other 3. |

| I wondered that too Peter. I still have the rears, as I had a spare set we cut up, so may look at that later. I dont want it as load as yours though |

| Mine's much louder than stock with the rear mufflers removed. 83db stock, compared to 103db with the rear mufflers removed. Although it reached 103db on back off. I think it was around 97db before back off. |

| I am not that unhappy that I will bother to take off the rest at the moment. At least now you know its a V8 |

Correct. The part that makes any V8 system quiet is when the two banks have a balancer or single pipe section... really drops the rubble/noise in general. |

I'd do that too. Apparently it sounds pretty good. |

Yeah mate. Dead stock with rears removed and quad tips. Sounds better than stock, but would love the note to be a bit deeper. |

| I have a video on my Youtube account of my Soarer with no rear mufflers, for anyone who is curious. I was going to leave it like that, but I ended up making my own cat-back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SE-oUz5feI |

How about just get the centre resonator deleted? So it goes manifold - cats - mid muffs - rear muffs. No mixing between banks will increase thump, but the 4 mufflers will keep it under control. |

| Yeah, it does sound like a group A car at the moment. Not a real V8 sound. Might check that out with my exhaust bloke. I am getting to like it how it is, dont want it too loud. Will get it out, and see how it sounds. Can allways put it back |

| I think it will be a great result. Burble without so much volume - looking forward to you getting it done! |

Are you suggesting running straight from each cat to the muffler, leaving each side of the exhaust independent from the other? I think that would probably sound pretty good. That centre resonator ruins the note, and without it the car would probably have a much more throaty note without the offensive volume. |

| Glen, yes. Leaving 2 mufflers each side should keep the noise down, removing the centre mixing resonator should give great burble. |

| When I built my exhaust I fired up the car with everything south of the resonator removed, and it sounded the same as stock except a lot louder. After I'd removed the resonator and Y-pipe, and I only had the stock manifolds and cats left, it sounded like a NASCAR. When I get my next exhaust done (I built that other sucker as a test run), I'm tempted to leave each side independent. I think having that beefy note would be awesome... especially if the exhaust will be fabricated from one piece of stainless pipe on each side. Perfect flow and an evil note! |
