Ever since I bought the soarer a few months ago whenever I fill up with petrol, some leaks (not at the petrol station, but within the next few kms) and leaves streaks down the side of the body.
I put an old sock just under the cap and that seemed to fix the problem (not really a fix, but I had no more petrol streaks)
Until last weekend. I'd done maybe 40kms since I filled it up so it was still pretty close to full. It was parked in the sun for a while, then someone noticed it was leaking fuel. We had a look, it was coming out of the overflow. So i opened the fuel flap and sure enough fuel was leaking out around the cap. So we opened the cap to let out the pressure and the fuel came flowing out. Probably 0.5-1L came out all up, enough to leave a reasonable sized stain on the ground.
Will this fix my problem? It seems like it'll pressurise the petrol tank, which sounds kind of dangerous if the tank wasn't designed for it so I thought I should check first.

Andrew sounds strange about the Fuel spilling out like that.. the only thing i can think of is that it was a very hot day and heated a FULL FULL tank of fuel (in which expansion occurred)....
I recently resealed mine, haven’t had a chance on testing it out yet as its still on stands in the garage...
Mine would only leak fuel when the tank was above ¾ full and turning corners, left streaks down the side and a bad fuel smell when you stopped. Hopefully all fixed now.
But in short yes that is the correct way on fixing the leak.
