front tires are wearing normally, pressure is correct, fronts and rears have been rotated, but steering still feels "loose" and sometimes seems to have a delay in the car turning and creates a sensation of slow response.

I have put the car on a hoist and checked there is no play in the front wheels and also no play from the steering wheel to the wheels turning when the wheels are straight ahead.

I also checked the rack for no movement. I intend to recheck all the above. Any other suggestions?

(upper and lower control arms had new bushes last yr)

HiTom, Delay!! if rack bushes are OK , could be from rear have you checked the rear wishbones ,you may be getting a bit of rear wheel steer .

you will find them on toyodiy.com but you can get the rack bushes from pedders or superpro. but you will have to know the OD of your rack.

Tom,
I bought these for my 91 v8
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUPERPRO-TOYOTA-SOARER-1JZGTE-1UZFE-V8-SC400-STEERING-RACK-PINION-MOUNT-B USH-KIT-/160781197233?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256f4e5fb1
Pedders fitted them with W/A , about $250.

Major improvement in the steering

www.soarerparts.com for OEM style rubber ones or the above links for Polyurethane ones.

Poly will cause more road harshness/bumps etc to be transmitted to the steering wheel, but will give a marginally sharper feel to the steering.
