I don't know why people would even ask a question like that. Any time I've faced a situation like that I've just handed it over to my insurer to sort it out - that's what I pay them for. Clearly the work was not carried out with any due care, so there is no question of having to pay the money legally.

Would never trust my car at a workshop, I was a trades assistant at a shop a long while ago, I had to clean a E46 M3 Interior up, I asked the manager what to use to do the Carpet, he handed me some brake cleaner.
