So basically recently I have been becoming fond of MKIV Supras. I already have a late model soarer with a 2jzgte, so I wonder if there would be any point in having a late model jza80 along with the soarer, considering the cars are pretty much the same underneath? Anyone who has had a jzz30 and jza80, chime in now!

Well I've got two cars, both Toyotas. There needs to be a bit of a difference between the two to make it worth it. I own a chaser 1jz and a soarer 1uz. I feel that if I owned a 1jz soarer instead it would be boring just to have a coupe version of the chaser.

Yeah I think you almost need a V8 Limited for cruising around in and the Supra for a spirited drive. There needs to be a divide between them so you can value their differences. A JZZ30 and JZA80 would be too similar!

I have three Soarers, LOL. If I could, I would magic one into a JZA 80 supra. Always wanted Supra but compromised on Soarer for the useable back seat and boot (kids). Mine are chalk and cheese with one a fairly stock streeter, and the other a no compromise track car. (Third is my 'development shell')

Hey Ali. Always interested in your car history. You have good taste. I've never been a supra man. The interior throws me off it and I got bitten by the mr2 bug which in my bias view supersedes then eats up and digests a supra in all aspects bar the engine. Also since going the mr2 route I've never bothered to look back or become fond of the supra. If anything the sw20 mr2 led me to the enjoyment and pursuit of handling prowess found in the gen 3 sw20 mr2, Evo 8, and now aw11 mr2. Unfortunately the more I fell for the mr2 the more heavier the Soarers and most cars bar the Evo felt. In addition it has put me on the addiction to MR cars that I can see will be a costly habit in the future (360, gaillardo, r8, nsx). Perhaps I shouldn't just done drugs like most kids...cheaper at least So I know you've never been one for the mr2s but that maybe a good alternative to consider. On then flip side my little racing experience does think that 200kg lighter Soarer with a manual 2jz would be fun on the track! How about a gtr, Evo, gto? The awd turbos really out handle most things if you can stand not having drifty fun

Thats what I am afraid of, Supra maybe to too similar. Its not even that much lighter. Joshua, it seems MR2s are somewhat difficult to find in good condition in Australia. I dont really like Evos or AWD all that much..also I think my next car would have to be a newer car..something German, 2 door, rwd, manual..

Have a good think about the German car fetish. They are not what they seem at 1st. Some are cheap to buy, and for a good reason, they are crap. Unless of course you want to do a GEN111 conversion All of the above is my personal opinion.

Yeah, Dave, keep your nickers on, I was referring to the older models(late 80s, early 90s. A lot of euro cars loose value real bad. Benz cars can be picked up for a song at 3-4 years old, and BMW are no better. Mate was leasing Falcons, went to a BMW, then back to Falcon because of lack of value in the BMW.

Benz's and BMW's arent really my cup of tea. I would have one yes, but Porsche is more the way I would choose to go

Dave, you can sing any song you like. While I have never owned, and dont intend to, any Euro car(bar an old 1500 VW wagon), my ex boss had at any one time, around 30 Mercedes, ranging from older 450 coupe, ML wagons, 500 sedans, and sorry to tell you Dave, 2 mid 2000s AMG 55 coupes( I think that is the model??), 2 Ferraris, Rolls royce, Jag V8, and an assortment of other vehicles. I was lucky to get to drive most of them. Was impressed by the go in the 5cyl turbo diesel sedan he had. Not so much in the cramped, noisy Ferrari. But, also, I had 1st hand knowledge of the issues he had with a fair few of them.

If you were impressed with the 5 cyl turbo diesel Ian,you should have a drive of our ML 6cyl turbo diesel 520 Nm, it still impressing me even tho i work in a car yard and drive most things ,but as Ali has said you really need to have a warranty ,the rear tail gate on ours is electric and the other day it would not lock just kept buzzing, took it in under warranty, bill would have been $950 plus they paid taxis to and from dealership $140 , I have not driven a R8 or SLS ,but still live in hope.
