I recently imported a 2000 model 3.0GT from Japan and it came with only one key which does not appear to have a transponder. I would like to know if this model came without remote locking and unlocking.

I would like to have this function and would appreciate advice on the simplest way to achieve this. I could install an after market alarm system but do not want to do this if there is an easier way.

You might get lucky at Toyota, but expect it to be expensive. I asked about one for my 97 a few years back, and it was around $360 at that time.

Cheaper to fit an aftermarket unit as you also get alarm/immobiliser for similar price.

My '96 was the same - only 1 (master) key and no inbuilt transponder - I just fitted an aftermarket unit, which was dead easy as the door locking module is right under the dash and has all the inputs you need. Cost me $50 for the aftermarket unit, and a few hours work to install by the time I'd worked out the immobiliser and blinkers (a competent sparkey would do it far quicker, but electrics are not my strongest area).
