These are the yahoos that you see trying to do smoky burnouts on city streets. They look around for deserted industrial areas so they can "Race" each other in a straight line. They think NOS is cool. They think "Fast and Furious" is a shoe-in for an Oscar, both for best picture, best actor, and best documentary. They post on various Internet BBS boards short stories talking about their "Kills", where they went 0-60 faster than some other car on busy city streets.
Favorite type of woman: Any sixteen year old female who hangs out at those Import car shows and will show some skin, never mind that her skin is pimply.
Favorite Magazine: Import Tuner. Sport Compact Car. Turbo Digest. NOS World.
Freeway Racers:
Next to the bottom are these guys. They frown upon Street Racers, thinking that Street Racers are 0-80 mph wimps. Instead, Freeway Racers think that they are cool, as they go 120+ mph and weave in and out of traffic on the highway like a bunch of morons on crystal meth. The problem is that these boneheads have spent money to make their car a little faster and a little noisier than usual, but they forgot one thing: they are going at dangerously high speeds and they have itty bitty front brakes, small rear drum brakes, and they have never attended a go-fast driving school. They forgot the Stop-Fast parts when they modified their cars. Not good when Sally Homemaker in her 6000 lbs SUV makes a lane change at 55 mph without signaling and without looking for cars coming up on her at triple digit speeds. They post on various BBS boards about their "Kills", where they passed some guy driving a more expensive car at 110 mph, saying that they knew that "Name_your_Car" drivers can't drive worth a crap.
Favorite type of woman: Any female that is impressed by them driving 100 mph with a beer in their hand, a joint in the other, and no seat belt on. Needless to say, these guys are usually dateless.
Favorite magazine: High Times. Mad Magazine.
1/4 Mile Drag Racers
Next up are the 1/4 mile drag racers. These guys are at least smart enough to take their cars to a formal race track where there are rules, safety regulations, and ambulances for when they crash because they can't figure out how to drive in a straight line. They look down upon the Freeway "Racers" and Street "Racers" as a bunch of immature folks who don't have enough sense to take their need for speed to their local 1/4 mile drag strip. Instead, these 1/4 mile geeks spend their life trying to break the 12 second barrier in their souped up street cars. Sometimes they might even get four runs in a day, and at 13 seconds a run, this means they spent the whole day at the track for 52 seconds of "racing" fun. Kinda like spending $200 on a dinner date, and having premature ejaculation at the dinner table.
Favorite type of woman: Any female that has teeth.
Favorite magazine: Hot Rod, Car Craft, Hemi World.

And just to keep the thread on topic... at the Nismo Australia/UAS track day at Oran Park in September 2004, I placed first and Steve Watson second against all the Skylines - boy did that go down well!

I dont come into those categories manny, I just do it for fun and not for a kill . I severely want to do a track day though!
I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, the closest race track is 4 hours away, don't get the chance for real racing. We do have a dedicated 1/8 mile drag strip tho but it is only new and is having 4 meets for the year.
oh...and Fast and Furious shouldnt get an oscar.....High Octane should! lol...And Ketz for Prime Minister

Well comparing a soarer vs skyline isn't actually a good comparison.
They are different cars, skyline is a lighter more agile car. They can generate about 200 to 250rwkw without any engine problems which for most people is more than enough. The 200kg difference make the car a lot faster if the setup is right, but often cheap arse P platers do stupid mods which only give them a peak power figure with no low down power or torque. There is heaps of parts for skylines and they are really cheap to fix. They do occasionally break something but that maybe 1k of repairs over a 5 year period.
Soarers are nowhere near as agile, slower as stock if you can drive correctly but they are much nicer cruisers, if you spend more than about 30minutes driving each on the freeway you will diffinitely prefer the soarer.
Soarers also have a much nicer IMO level of comfort and dont have the police attention that a skyline/all nissan 2 door cars attract.
Soarers have better rear traction which is an issue for most nissans ie silvia, 180sx, skylines so you should be able to get a much better launch but you wont beat them at speed.
Skylines are much easier to get in a manual, have a better dash set up IMO and you can see the bonet which is something I really prefer.
I am currently tossing up between soarer and a nissan and I know that I would prefer a soarer but with the cost of fuel a 4cyl turbo nissan which is a lot lighter and significantly more fuel efficient they have my attention. (BTW I currently spend over 100 bucks a week on fuel) Insurance is $300 a year cheaper for a R33 over a soarer and the cars are cheaper. The single turbo setup is much cheaper if replacement is required.
I have also had thoughts of a mazda as the ones I have driven well lets just say they were fast enough and the handling was better than sex.
So I would say both toyota and nissan cars are good and they both have a lot of things going for it. I must say I am simply not going down the nissan rout at this time due to the police issue and the demographic of head drivers which own them.

Are you implying that all Nisans are sexy? Or for that matter all Mazda's? I would say Toyota have made at LEAST as many attractive cars as Mazda and more than Nissan - who with very rare exception make very bland, ordinary looking boxes (IMO, all but the current Skyline model included - but thats very subjective as I know a lot of people think they are great looking)
With more recent models like the current model Primera, they beat the poor car to within an inch of its life with an ugly stick.
I'd agree in general with your other comments though.

But all toyotas just dont have the awesome look and sex appeal as other cars.
Soarers can be love em or hate em, obviously most of us love em. But they have kept their shape a lot better than say the R32 Skyline, Soarers can still be mistaken for a new car.
As for Toyota not having the awesome look? What about the late model Supras? Come on, frigging hard core!
Nissan's 350Z I love, the new Skyline is average, looks like a poor copy.

Haha still relevant though! I feel like i can contribute to this, having owned about 5 skylines and 2 soarers. As Damian said, they are actually different cars. The Skyline feels lighter and more agile, and i personally love the styling of the 2-doors. Aftermarket parts are easy to come by, and they are relatively easy to work on. In terms of speed, the R32 GTS-T are average, R33 GTS-T are quick, and GTR smash the Soarer. That said, i prefer the Soarer because the styling is timeless and as someone said, still relevant today. Also, they are more unique and comfortable.
At the end of the day, i think if you were tossing up between a turbo Skyline or a Soarer it would mostly come down to your style. They are both equally good cars in their own right (even if the Soarers are technically built better)

I drove a R33 GTS-T, and it was very quick, Automatic with Exhaust and Intercooler. On Kickdown it pulled 2x harder than Any Soarer, I got no idea why though.... maybe the gearing makes it pull hard at low speeds.... Apparently once they get going the Soarer is faster.
I've been in a GTR, and that's the only skyline i'd call very fast.
As for when you begin modding, Soarer and GTR seem to be about head to head once you do Intercooler, Exhaust and Tune, the Soarer is such a restricted car from the factory which is why it can be quite slow.

To me the Soarer is a good cruising car, and the Skyline a good weekend toy. I originally went looking to buy a Skyline, and eventually came home with a Soarer. Much more room, and comfort. Although, I would have an R34 anyday. Dont have any regrets buying a Soarer.

my brother owns an r32 gtr and it is very quick in almost stock form it has an exhaust from cat back and a few extra psi and that's about it. its a nice car to drive and ride in the acceleration is crazy and the handling is very sharp. but i have not done long trips in it. but in saying that i still like my soarer better and the handling is on par when you add coilover's, sway bars and a strut brace to the soarer. so i think in the end its up to the individual to pick a car based on there wants and needs.

Housemate has a 33GTS-T Skyline, Both with full exhaust, hes got FMIC i dont, his is manual, mines auto, but as most of you guys have mentioned, Skyline from dead stop off the line gets ahead till about 100k's then the soarer just walks away. Any speed above 50ks however, and you both punch it, the Soarer just walks straight away.

I'm Pretty sure it's the R33's Gear Ratios that make it take off quicker than the Soarer I looked this up a while ago not sure if it's true or not I guess the weight also doesn't help out much for the Soarer.
