So I reduced the weight of my GTTL Soarer by about 75kgs. Obviously a large chunk of that was just the spare wheel and jack but I took the time to weigh and photo everything as I went just like someone with OCD would. I'll post up pics of various parts I removed on scales and feel free to ad your own pics of parts on scales, that way there is a proper weight reference and not just estimates.

Kicking things off is the steel spare at 24kg:

Jack with handle 2.5kg:

Mine had some fan and filter thing hanging off the rear parcel shelf, 3.2kg:

Front elec. cooling fan 2.1kg:

Front elec. cooling fan shroud 800g:

It's remarkable how much everything adds on without you realising.

Fortunately my E36 is already quite light, but could much MUCH lighter.

I might look into the battery, mine is huge.

Mike yes it sure adds up. 75kg less is a really noticeable difference while driving but I've kept it as a comfortable daily driver. The only obvious giveaway is a completely stripped out boot and the car sits quite a bit higher on stock suspension, which is a bit embarrassing.

This thread was actually inspired by this maniac:
http://performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?67280038-13-04-1300-Mazda-626-Turbo but there is no way I am cutting anything off the car or removing anything structural.

Hmmm maybe that's not right .... Will check up , maybe it was 21.9 . I remember not saving much on the rear but the extra 2 inch width gives a better footprint . }

@Daniel Clarcke - Well, the sizes are wrong. Stock Soarer doesn't have what you said it had. It's 225/55R16 7J ET 50. If you weight the entire wheel, tire and rim, the total weight is affected by what kind of tire you use. Keeping the same size, there are big difference between Michelin, Pirelli, Nankang, Avon, Continental, BFGoodrich and so on. Also, there is a difference between models of the same size and brand. And year!
What you want to say is that if the footprint is wider, the weight is greater. And if the rim is bigger or/and wider , also the weight is greater.
Being the same suspension, doesn't matter witch is lighter, Supra's or Soarer's original wheel.
I have 3 sets: on 16's, on 17's and on 18's.
I've learn that aftermarket wheels are usually heavier than stock. Unless, you want to pay 500$ per rim.

Hey Liviu , I'm not wrong .

Try re reading what I wrote , not my fault for you not understanding !

I ran 255/50/16 Mickey Thompson ET Street radials on my stock 16x7 wheels and those were the weights .

I never said stock Soarer wheels come with . I was stating what rims I had and tyres on them with weights .

I race my car as well as street drive , hence my tyre options .

@ Daniel Clarke - Looks that you compare stock tires with race tyres. Try compare watermelons with apples, youll have the same result.
You know how much my 17's Enkei with new tires weighs? After you give me your answer, I will tell you that I ran Russian van tires. I drift my car and drive it through police spikes after that. Hence my tyre options.

Bud , I'm simply giving weights of what I use . So people might want to know what weights are of my setup .

Seeing as it is the quickest factory Stock turbo 1jz . And maybe I've contributed to many peoples builds ... Have been a contributing member for a while and have a few posts . The place is a bout helping people , not for keyboard warriors .

You go back to Grand Theft Auto 5 champ , learn to drive and you won't hit those spike strips ;)

Bud, my name is Liviu. I have 2 Soarers, one being built as a track car with a M50B25 BMW engine and Holset turbo. In your part of the world, where Police do have and use spike strips...you don't know the word "metaphor"? Because here we don't have the need for those spikes, we use metaphor to get people to understand.
For that purpose, I will send a Soarer shell without bonnet and doors (fiberglass) to see some real weight reduction.

WHoa! All this angst about weight reduction. You want an argument about weight, go tell your missus she could afford to lose 10kg. Then you'll have an argument.

I have posted a lot of weight reduction info in my track car thread, which I have neither drag raced, driven on the street, drifted or driven through police spikes (does that mean I am not qualified to post in this thread? ). Whilst I rarely bothered to take a photo of the scales, if I said it was a weight saving of 1.25kg you can take that as definitive. In most cases I removed a stock item and replaced it with something aftermarket. Feel free to cut and paste any of that info if you want to make your thread both definitive and comprehensive (ie covering some areas you may not be willing to do to your car - gutting doors, replacing glass etc)

Any rate....carry on.
