Hey guys I'm new and this is my new post I've just purchased a TT soarer 1991 and loving it so far! However it has been overheating a bit and bubbling into the reservoir I have a few questions but my main one is I've just got a new waterpump to put in and what is the little valve/pipe on the bottom of it?? And also it seems like the radiator cap releases at a low pressure it's 88kpa "13psi" and it's a new one but cheap should I get a higher pressure say 16psi GReddy cap? Cheers in advance

The little valve pipe on the bottom is a drain incase the water pump seal leaks, water then dribbles out of the pipe instead of in theory getting into the water pump bearings ..
Not sure off hand what pressure the caps are but in most cases i go Genuine Toyota including things like the water pump & radiator cap etc etc & you don't have to then worry if its going to fit or work properly etc, also i heard a case recently a guy was getting after market 1JZ VVTI Cam cover gaskets for about $140 & then found out He could get genuine for just under a $100 ..
How Hot has it been getting & does it still have the original Viscous fan & fan shroud fitted ?? Depends on what's happening & how Hot its getting, but bubbling is usually not a good sign ..

I have a 88kpa cap on mine so I dont think that's a problem.
Earlier this year I had issues with one of my soarers overheating after a long drive and bubbling into overflow. Ended being blown head gasket.
I did the usual troubleshooting by installing new thermostat, radiator cap, even new radiator before I pulled the motor and changed the head gasket.
The way I confirmed it (before pulling engine) is by running the head gasket repair stuff through the radiator, pretty sure I used the liqui moly stuff, coasts around $50. Followed instructions exactly and found it fixed thew overheating problem. Then once I allowed the car to boost, overheating came back.

Thanks for the info guys and as for how hot it's getting if I drive it steady it's fine and if I drive it hard on a cool day or at night it's perfectly fine but it struggles on a really hot day (37c+) no matter what and mostly in stop start situations it has only maxed out temp on the gauge twice we had a few real hot days in a row also the actual radiator is quite cool to touch (not the cap or top and both hoses are getting hot so I'm gonna change the water pump tomorrow I hope this fixes my issue and not a BHG I've only had the car 2-3 weeks and also it is running the stock clutch fan, no shroud! I been trying to find one everywhere!! Any ideas? Also could this shroud make a big cooling issue cheers

The Shroud will make a huge difference & especially as you say in stop start traffic where it is really needed to pull the air through the radiator ..
Strange you say the radiator is cool to touch, but then you say not the top etc etc, so I guess you are talking about the core fins, you should still feel heat there but not as bad as the hoses etc as the fins are dissapating the heat, run you hand over the complete core & if there is some cool spots it could be partially blocked too

New water pump and it runs cooler do far and the whole radiator warmed up so better circulation I'm gonna get some new hoses and a higher pressure cap too, to me it seems the rad cap is releasing into the reservoir way too early.. Before the thermostat opens It's only a cheap one
